So you’re saying any Anerican mother can bring a small child into the US with no paperwork for the child?

Have you crossed into the US from Canada lately? Even before 9/11 the American side checks citizenship VERY closely.

Back in the 70s and 80s, all you needed was a birth certificate to travel between Canada and the US.
I used to travel to Canada on business and only used a bc, no passport reqd.

We’re talking about years ago, not recently. I went into Canada from Vermont to Montreal and returned through New Brunswick into Maine in the 70’s without any papers, passport or anything other than my DL. I had my three children with me. No questions.

So, one would have to assume that there was some sort of paperwork. He is, after all, in the U.S., that is not being questioned.
