I would put Wilson and LBJ at the bottom. If JFK had lived I think he would of been #1. Good list though, Coolidge is underrated.
Calvin’s not underrated on this list. It’s shocking to see him at number two after decades of being almost the scapegoat among leftist historians that Harding is. And to see Harding at number three is even more shocking, and frankly, makes the list an exercise in silliness.
Along with FDR who really made a mess of the economy and left us with institutions that are ruining this country today.
thank you! I originally was inclined to do so but surprisingly found saving graces in most of them, with the exception of FDR. Has anyone unearthed any?
again, look at the record
FDR was the only one I could point to as a real bottom feeder.
The record is of a philandering president oblivious to, while presiding over, the most corrupt administration in US history as he elevated rapacious cronies to positions of power.
To rate him over presidents who successfully waged major wars is ludicrous.
I've read Amity Schlaes' "The Forgotten Man", and it's spot on. FDR was bailed out by WWII, no doubt.
read M. Stanton Evans & Diana West on FDR’s conduct of the war, specifically, his subservience to Stalin.
Truman used the Bomb, saving many many American lives. He began to reverse the pro-Soviet policies of the Roosevelt administration — the Berlin airlift, aid to Greece against Communist rebels. Before you dismiss Truman, imagine what would have happened if Henry Wallace had remained VP and had succeeded FDR.
21st Century Presidents would be at the bottom of this list.
Fortunately for the usurper, he (1) didn’t rule in the 20th century, and (2) doesn’t belong on a list of real presidents, just one that’s titled “White House occupants”. Obama would be dead last on any list, ranking well below James Buchanan thanks to his sustained efforts.
Good point that. FDR made many mistakes, both foreign and domestic, but he beat both Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan in less than 4 years. That was simply a remarkable achievement.
Certainly FDR didn't do it on his own. But I'll give credit where credit is due. And as a side argument, compare FDR's wartime results with those of LBJ and Bush II. FDR chose to win, period. The other two chose nonsensical nation-building.
Hmmmpph... personally, I would have rated Harry Truman a lttle higher, but maybe that’s just me.
Considering that Russia lost over 20 million people to our 500,000, FDR gets a far better review than Stalin, IMHO.
I'll even give him credit for picking Harry Truman for VP, as he would demonstrate great courage in approving the use of atomic bombs.
when the Soviet aparatchick from Tass made that point on Nightline about 35 years ago, William F. Buckley, Jr., came back with, “That’s 20 million Stalin didn’t have to kill.” He killed many more, 3-5 million in the Ukraine alone.
The half breed will come in 57th.
You need to learn more about Harding. He belongs at #3.
