Anti-Cruz group launches $1.5 million ad blitz in South Carolina

Ted Cruz's critics are wasting no time hitting him in South Carolina.

American Future Fund, a conservative group that spent heavily against Cruz in Iowa, will begin airing a TV commercial in South Carolina that labels Cruz as "weak" on national security -- a damaging label in military-heavy South Carolina. The spot ties Cruz to Bernie Sanders, the liberal insurgent who's gaining momentum in the Democratic primary, and President Barack Obama. "Ted Cruz talks tough on national security. But look at his record. Cruz voted with Bernie Sanders against defense spending," the ad says. "Cruz sided with Obama to weaken our ability to track terrorists."

The commercial also attempts to paint Cruz as soft on undocumented immigrants, an issue where he has painted himself as the GOP field's strongest candidate of border security -- as well as its strongest opponent of "amnesty" for people who entered the country illegally. The issue is a high priority for GOP voters, particularly in conservative South Carolina.

Yeah, I am waiting with baited breath to hear Cruz call DT a p**** or worse. Of course manners and common decency are out of style with DT and his supporters.

Yeah...that's probably why Cruz lost...because some anonymous woman called him a derogatory name.

I have certainly been following Sen Cruz closely, and know of many other thoughtful conservatives here in South Carolina.

Boy those ethanol supporters just can’t stand the thought that someone who actually opposes their gravy train might actually win somewhere.

A real man would not brought attention to it much less repeat it. DT is stirring the pot harder than Bambi did. He is much better at Alinsky than Bambi. I still have only heard DT talk about Schumer and Pelosi being his friends. Think he will ever go Alinsky on any of his progressive friends?

"How many of Ted Cruz’s speeches on conservatism put a dime in anyone’s pocket?"

None of them I'd reckon. How much of Donald's work actually helped to establish the constitutionality of our gun rights in front of the SCOTUS? Both men are highly competent at their callings, but Cruz has never given material aid to our enemies and Trump has given plenty.

I’m a retired Army officer and I wouldn’t be a prop for any candidate. However, Trump hasn’t always been so concerned about veterans:

And there are many, many more...

We can’t help it if Bernie was right on opposing NSA surveillance. Happy to have him as an ally whenever he wants to defend Constitutional violations.

Cruz has vowed to change ALL those abortion policies. I don’t think Trump has discussed all of them.

Trump went on TV and supported partial-birth abortion years ago. And he donated to the most pro-abortion Democrats in government.

Cruz has vowed to change ALL those abortion policies. I don’t think Trump has discussed all of them.

Along with every other conservative politician since 1973 and NOT ONE of them with the exception of Henry Hyde has ever done anything meaningful.

I don't give a rat's fart what Cruz SAYS he'll do about them. He's been a politician most of his adult life. What has he ALREADY done about them?

Certainly would expect someone like Sandy Greiner, who heads up American Future Fund, to attack Ted Cruz.

She is an Iowa state senator whom has strong ties with Gov. Terry Branstad. Of course she will be against Cruz.

In all likelihood, she is on the doll for the ethanol industry. Given her stated occupation as being a farmer, this is almost guaranteed.

The other folks from American Future Fund were the remnants of the 2008 Romney campaign in Iowa.

Real SOLID conservatives...

Which veteran groups have received any money from that?

At least one such group turned it down because Trump was insisting that it be given in a setting with lots of media around to publicize the event for his campaign.
