If you actually read what Silver wrote, it was not this. He said Trump would not be the nominee, and outlined different events where his candidacy could end, but he never said Trump would definitely fade before the primaries.
“I’ve listened to Rush steadily these past months. I heard him “defend” Rubio from some attacks, principally his Gang-of 8 participation. But, I would hardly call what Rush has said as being “pro”-Rubio.

FOX and pundit myths:
New Hampshire punished Marco Rubio for his weak debate performance and voted Trump to punish Rubio. False, any late deciders went for Trump after Ford announced 3 days prior that they will build their new assembly plant in Mexico and thousands of manufacturing jobs will go to cheap foreign labor.
Rubio was bushwacked by Christie who committed suicide by dare saying Rubio keeps repeating himself with memorized campaign stop stump speeches, and Christie is to blame for the Trump victory. False, these are whiners from the Bush pro-amnesty operatives and Trump haters who constantly told us Trump will fade before New Hampshire, or that Carly has deballed Trump, that Trump is just a fad, on and on, then they turned to Rubio as their guy after they started thinking maybe Bush is a loser while playing Cruz in hopes of stopping Trump, in the end nothing stopped Trump in New Hampshire and the same establishment crowd told us Bush and Christie won the debate after Iowa in hopes of stopping Trump and Bush or some RINO will rise from the ashes but now blame Christie for Trump’s victory in New Hampshire. In fact, Trump won in New Hampshire because he is the most popular among the Republican base in New Hampshire, Christie has nothing to do with Trump winning and nor did Christie bushwack Rubio by pointing out what everyone obviously saw and agreed that Rubio repeats himself using canned campaign stump slogans, Rubio has only himself to blame and nobody else except perhaps the very pundits who overhyped Rubio in order to try and stop Trump and made Rubio all excited about repeating memorized campaign stump liners which the same pundits praised Rubio for as the reason Rubio connects with Americans with a positive message or something and so Rubio did exactly what the Trump hating pundits egged him on to do at the post Iowa debate and it didn’t work in stopping Trump and now the same pundits are repeating the same campaign stump speech oneliners they have been echoing since day one that Trump cannot win while he is winning, that Hillary will run all over Trump while she is losing, and now the Republican establishment candidate will rise up, and now the same establishment trash Rubio for the loss in New Hampshire which actually they themselves caused Rubio’s demise by anchoring their hopes on Rubio as their guy who will finally stop Trump and thereby destroying any idea that Rubio is not another Bush and ruining any chance Rubio had of casting himself as an outsider. Now the same establishment operatives will proclaim Kasich as their guy and will totally destroy Kasich in the eyes of the Republican base that is clearly anti-establishment and Kasich has no more chance of getting the Republican nomination than Mitch McConnell or Paul Ryan.
That last minute deciders are in large numbers and decided outcomes. False, there are hardly any last minute deciders, the notable majority of the Republican base has already decided they hate the Republican establishment and all of their candidates and the only last minute deciding going on is to decide whether a candidate who is supposed to be an outsider or non-establishment and then if the establishment operatives such as at FOX get behind this candidate they will decide last minute the candidate as suspected was an establishment candidate and confirms their suspicions to not vote for that candidate. Anyone who says they are a last minute decider are mostly not last minute but just say so to the media to try and get attention and the few who are actually last minute deciders are not last minute deciders because, as the phony establishment operatives are implying, they are last minute deciders because they are shocked by the tone of the campaign and only want a positive campaign, where positive campaign in establishment lingo means you must hate Trump, actually any real last minute decider is simply trying to sort out who are the establishment candidates so they can vote against them.
The biggest losers besides Bush, the establishment and FOX and unfriends of the Republican base and the Megyn Kelly crowd is anyone of these losers who have had everything wrong from day one, along with pompus types such Mark Levin who are really about being jealous of other right-wing talk show hosts than anything else and thus will oppose any candidate the other host supports and who demands that the base only takes orders from them the great Pol Pot and vote exactly what they say or have a plastic bag forced over their heads who do not pick rice in the great leader’s fields fast enough, the great leader of the stupid awash that the great leader knows deserves no respect and simply must dredge in the rice fields of the great leader, as well as religious cultists such as Glenn Beck. Others can join the ranks of Glenn Beck and Mark Levin as losers in the near future if they don’t get their heads out of their own hatred of other right-wing talk show hosts who they are jealous of. Oh, this last myth isn’t a myth. It is a fact. As we watch the Republican establishment further bushwack themselves with their bushwackers and bishboppers.
