GOP front-runner Donald Trump and Democrat Bernie Sanders have been declared the winners of the first primary of the 2016 election season in New Hampshire Tuesday.
It's especially a big night tonight in the Republican race for the nomination, as several GOP candidates had been competing for the coveted second spot behind Trump, who led in New Hampshire polls by double-digit margins for months.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich claimed the GOP's second spot Tuesday.
After results were posted, the Huffington Post ran with the headline, "A racist, sexist demagogue just won the New Hampshire primary."
CNN's Wolf Blitzer declared the victory represents a "major, major win for Donald Trump."
And CNN's Jack Tapper said Trump's win is a "remarkable thing to behold."
The New Hampshire Secretary of State William Gardner predicted 550,000 ballots would be cast, a turnout of about six in 10 registered voters.
A CNN exit poll Tuesday found about 75 percent of GOP voters said they were very worried about the U.S. economy, 60 percent said they were very worried about terrorism, and 90 percent said they were dissatisfied with the federal government.
And an ABC News exit poll found two-thirds of Republican voters said they favor a temporary ban on U.S. entry for Muslims who are not U.S. citizens, an idea that originated with Trump in December. Also, nearly half of GOP voters said they want a candidate from "outside the political establishment."

Preach it, sista!
It’s good to see a class act here on FR.
Are you guys deciding who is patriotic and who is not now?
Trump’s not a professional campaigner, that’s not what he’s done with his life. Building the right “ground game”, advertising, all the logistics of the act of running is all new to him. And, he’s mastering it... proving that he has what it takes to step into a situation and take control, and come out winning. I like that.
I think you have some good points. Cruz does have his less than great moments and I’m also not a huge fan of Trump’s twitter rants in the wee hours.
Anyway, I’m still in Trump’s corner and glad to see tonight’s results.
From our credit due department - Trump, Cruz and Kasich for congratulating their opponents and Trump also congratulated Bernie, Kasich also gets a double dose because when he offered his congratulations to Trump the crowd started getting negative and he shushed them, showing a bit of class there.
What surprised me was Kasich coming in second. Didn’t see that one coming, I was expecting either Cruz or Rubio to nail down second place. Also surprised Christie looks like his attack on Rubio also worked to his detriment, he didn’t do near as well as I thought he would. Rubio was right of course, Obama is doing all this by intent, not chance, but Christie was right too, that was a memorized sound byte by Rubio. I just didn’t expect it to backfire on Christie like it apparently did.
I was expecting this to end up Trump vs Hillary in the end, I may have missed that call, if things keep going like this we might see Trump vs Bernie. I’m pretty sure Trump will hand Bernie his ass in a paper bag...
Were you that happy when he was using filthy language that most of us would not want our children to hear?
Me too!
It’s the news media. They have done it to all the republicans for years. Fact is, Trump did have a very good night. He won tonight, Cruz won last week. Neither one is going away any time soon. Cruz has $19 million bucks in the bank and is in for the long haul. They will probably go on into the Spring, whichever the outcome.
The one thing for sure is that Clinton had an epic melt down tonight. There’s no telling what will happen on the dem side!
Did Trump Win...just got home!!!
No, Cbolt will be moving to Venezuela.
You lucky, lucky bastard!
Clinton’s meltdown is not the word.
This was a nuclear holocaust for Clinton.
The voters are saying that they simply do not want her period and the DNC is trying to cram her down everyone’s throat.
Congrads to Trump and his supporters.
Strange that Fox News and CNN aren’t declaring Cruz the real winner being in 3rd place and all. But if they won’t do it, I will. Congrads to Ted Cruz and my fellow Cruz supporters! Bronze is the new gold!
Huff Post is wrong, Hildabeast did NOT win the New Hampshire primary.
Keep on Trumpin baby
Got to keep on Trumpin
