What would happen if Rostker is overturned, which I think is likely, is that the Court would invalidated a male-only draft registration or actual draft. It would not, however, order the registering or drafting of women.
So practically speaking, the idea of instituting a traditional style draft based on existing Selective Service registrations seems to me to be a waste of time and money.
I think a much better approach would be to scrap the Selective Service system, and instead focus on enhancing organizations and databases related to securing rapid assistance from already trained individuals.
For many of the kinds of emergencies we might face in the future, just having the names and mailing addresses of a bunch of young people won't be particularly helpful.
