Oops!… Bush Family Used Eminent Domain to Build Texas Baseball Park
thegatewaypundit.com ^ | February 7

The establishment media cheered Jeb Bush's performance last night at the ABC GOP debate. The media was particularly pleased with how Jeb went after Donald Trump on eminent domain.

Jeb slammed Trump for using eminent domain in his building projects.

But Jeb forgot to mention his family used eminent domain too - to build a baseball park. Oops.

This is total nonsense.

The city of Arlington, Texas, built a baseball park for the Texas Rangers after holding an election in 1991 in which city residents approved it.

Yes, the city did use eminent domain to acquire some of the land. THE CITY, not the Bush family. The only Bush connection is that Jeb’s older brother had a 1.8% minority stake in the Texas Rangers at the time and was a proponent of the arrangement with the city.

It was a public project and therefore eminent domain (which I despise) was a legal option, and the city used it. The ballpark is located in the city’s entertainment district (adjacent to Six Flags Over Texas, near the Dallas Cowboys stadium, and across I-30 from Hurricane Harbor, a large waterpark.)

The park has paid for itself and is a money maker for the city.

It’s a totallly different situation from what Trump did in Atlantic City, and if he’s smart enough to be President, he full well knows it.

Shame.

What an excellent occasion to teach people about the tu quoque fallacy!>>> i have tried to analyse according to logic several other threads. why is this so red herring is being trown by Trump? i assume. but jeb’s family used it to build a stadium. i think.

The Bushs’, the Bush family etal did not benefit. W benefited solely as an individual indirectly because the use of imminent domain increased the value of the Rangers.

It wasn’t right or fair to the property owners but it is also wrong to blame the whole Bush family. And I do not agree with the law being used that way.

Big problem with Trump’s story - the park at Arlington was built by the city, not by the Rangers or the Bush family.

The stadium is owned and was built by the city, not by the Bush family. So they did not use eminent domain, the city did. We can discuss whether that is a valid use of eminent domain (I have my doubts), but for Trump to try to lay that on the Bush family personally is pathetic.

Eminent domain has never been the issue, no matter how hard Donald Trump has tried to pretend it is.

What’s your point. Your wikipedia article said she refused to sell and Trump tried to take her property by using government powers. That’s exactly what I said.

I guess you did not understand what I wrote implied the same thing. However, the value of the team increased as a result of the new ballpark and when they did sell it W made a few million.

When W left west Texas as a failed oil man(really, really hard to drill dry holes around here) he was bailed out by some “friends of the family” and he went to the Rangers as the teams’ general manager I think it was. Something he knew nothing about and walked away from that sale for I think 15 million. It pays to know people.

Well, no. If you live in Panama, Arlington city revenue really does not affect you.

Nor Donald Trump.

Trump “walked away” when he lost in court.

I can’t believe people on this thread are defending the Kelo decision.

Same here. I have also seen Trump supporters defend giving taxpayer money to Planned Parenthood once they found out Trump supported it.
