Well, I made it a point to read Das Kapital and the Communist Manifesto when I was in college, but I did it in order to understand what we were fighting. They weren’t assigned texts.
Now, of course, it’s quite a different story.

We were assigned The Communist Manifesto, in a course on political philosophy that also assigned Aristotle's Politics, Locke's Second Treatise on Civil Government, Machiavelli's The Prince, and a few others I don't recall. That, of course, was not a required course, but one I happened to take out of interest in the matters covered.
