How can he select Cruz and his vice president when he doesn’t believe he is constitutionally eligible to be president?
Cruz will have to get a declaratory judgment or some Senate resolution. I’m sure they would work something out.
You’re right. He shouldn’t do it.
I just wish the Donald would STFU. Can you imagine four years of listening to that guys mouth?
It would be like deja vu.
He won’t pick Cruz. He said he won’t rule him out.
Good question.
I guess he's planning not to die.
Ever.
Well, as Cato said, it’s better to suffer this little illegality so as to avoid the greater danger.
“How can he select Cruz and his vice president when he doesnât believe he is constitutionally eligible to be president?”
That’s easy... Make it contingent on the outcome of the court battle that would surely come from the Dem side.
It’s ludicrous.
Trump believes what the moment demands.
In March -> Cruz not eligible
Summer, early Fall -> Cruz eligible
December, January -> Cruz not eligible
February -> Cruz eligible (Some people say Trump didn't see his shadow, so Cruz is eligible for six more weeks)
May -> Who knows?! Place you bets now!
Mark Levin believes he is, so the bottom line is that this could go either way and Cruz needs resolution.
The best ticket would be Trump/Cruz, and if Cruz is found ineligible, Trump can replace him after the election.
Thats why bashing Cruz and his supporters on this forum is not productive. Trump doesn’t want to be POTUS for 8 years and Cruz as a VP would open the door for him to be POTUS in 2020.
He’s said Cruz would need some kind of court ruling for him to consider him. But I wouldn’t hold my breath. Truth is Trump generally says he would “consider” anything. Nothing wrong with that.
Doesnt pertain to the vice president..I think. Havent looked into that though.
I believe it was Chester Arthur who was vice president and took over after the death of his CIC. Arthur was rumored to be from? Yup you guessed it Canada.
BTW, Arthur banned Chinese from immigrating into the USA for ten years.
Donald could use the Illinois ruling and claim that Cruz did what Trump wanted all along...
I think the Donald is just having a good time with it. I’d be shocked if he still wants Cruz at this point. Who wants to have to look over their shoulder all the time?
Exactly.....and why would his magnificence pick a VP he’s already called a nasty maniac and a liar that no one likes.....
How can he select Cruz and his vice president when he doesn’t believe he is constitutionally eligible to be president?
*******************************************************************************
Because he does NOT believe that and simply was saying it (to no or minimal effect) simply to keep Cruz’ vote down.
Now, maybe we can get back to the way things were going when it looked as if Trump and Cruz, JOINTLY, would have locked up the majority of the delegates and taken control of the Republican Party apparatus/
Congress could clear Cruz.
Wasn't it just last year that Trump had a bunch of high-power attorneys look into the issue and they told him that Cruz didn't have an issue? Maybe now Trump has decided to listen to the attorneys since it is to his advantage.
About a week ago Trump said he’d support Cruz if he were determined “eligible.”
Trump’s full-scale attacks on Cruz cost him big in Iowa and will continue to cost him. Trum would be well advised to take the opposite tack:
Sen. Cruz has many ideas with which I agree. He is a good man, a solid conservative and an uncompromising patriot. I believe, however, that I am far more electable in the general election. Trump should focus his attacks on Hillary and Sanders and THEIR ideas. He should stop the profanity-—it’s a yuge turn-off.
