Ben Carson and his closest advisers are going nuclear against Ted Cruz and his campaign for spreading false rumors that he intended to drop out ahead of the Iowa caucuses.
Carson's close friend and adviser Armstrong Williams told The Hill in an interview on Wednesdaythat the Cruz campaignâs tactics were 'nasty, brutal and deceitful.'
'We've been told all along that Cruz's operatives play dirty and were capable of this stuff, but Dr. Carson never believed it, he felt like they had a respectable operation,' Williams said. 'Now we see firsthand that having integrity just doesn't matter to them. It's about honor and character, either you have it or you don'.t'
Williams said he's certain that Cruz knew the rumors about him dropping out were false but says the Texas Republican allowed his underlings to spread it anyway.
'He's a pure politician and will do anything to win,' Williams said. 'It doesn't matter who he does it to, friend or foe, whatever it takes to win. Cruz has been running as an outsider and calling Hillary Clinton dishonest. Well, Cruz is the one running without honor or integrity, and this shows he's just like everyone else inside-the-beltway.'
Carson has demanded Cruz fire those responsible for spreading the rumor, but Cruz has said he won't do that.
"After all the candidates worked so hard, and Dr. Ben Carson had a staff member lose his life working towards this day, to have someone like Cruz and his people deceive and spread falsehoods is unconscionable," Williams said.

“Rubio is a giant establishment nothing-burger. We all agree on that.”
So you’re ok with Rubio doing something to gain advantage but not Cruz.
So you’re a GOPe supporter. You are one of those helping Rubio.
I mean tweeting that Carson was out of the race.
Cruz has admitted it!
Tempest in a teapot.
>>Well Dr. Carson, did you or did you not accept his apology?
You can accept an apology and still demand to be made whole.
Yes! Those Social Security Checks just keep rolling in every month! :-)
I trust Cruz’s Christianity...that is fine if you don’t.
if quoting a news source and apply spin is fatally flawed for a Republican then just not have one run and grant the seat to the democrats in perpetuity.
Just like the MSM calling Florida for Gore in 2000 with the polls still open. The MSM said Gore won, so he challenged the election.

Politics is a blood sport.
Our country is at stake. If Trump can’t handle hard ball how is he qualified to be President.
If Trump can’t play hardball that must mean he’s of the same mind as the unions. Otherwise they wouldn’t be so cooperative with him.
Great post!!!
You’re scratching for excuses.
You post the tweet @ post #56...but you haven't on this thread -- or any other you've posted on today or yesterday -- about this tweet re: the Rubio campaign. Why not? (If this is such a "moral indignation" issue to you?)
From Uh Oh, Was Marco Rubio Guilty In The Ben Carson Dropout Rumor?
Excerpt from this link: What has not been said much throughout the day is that Florida Senator Marco Rubioâs campaign worked actively to spread the message that Carson was leaving the presidential race. These actions were reported on Twitter by Conrad Close who, according to his Twitter profile, is the managing editor of Outset Magazine.
[You can go to the link to see a snapshot of Close's actual tweet...it reads:
Per the link above: "Another interesting little tidbit about Close, that he shouts from the rooftops with his Twitter profile picture, is that he is Team Rubio with the statement below his picture, 'Iâm voting for Marco Rubio.'
[So, it's not like Close was "anti-Rubio" & was attempting to sabotage him]
I call you & other FR posters out on this.
If you've ONLY targeted Cruz, who the Carson team went after ONLY a SINGLE Cruz staffer on this rumor...yet have ignored 100% Rubio, who Rush confirmed yesterday MULTIPLE staffers were involved in rumor-mongering...then it all comes across as crass exploitive targeted of THE front-runner...NOT as some moral issue sticking in your craw.
'Fess up.
i’m not gope or media, but Cruz brings this on himself by arrogance and ignoring things until made to deal with them.
“Carson needs to get over it. He was never a viable candidate.”
Doesn’t matter what you or I think about who was or is a viable candidate. That’s not the process the founders intended or that most of us ascribe to. You fight hard, you state your case, but you fight fair. Honesty matters.
I have thought highly of Cruz, but If these allegations are true, and Cruz knew about what was happening, he’s not a conservative, because it would indicate he puts expedience before principle. That’s not my impression of what most people on this site stand for. I have not picked anyone yet, and have been prepared to vote for anyone that comes out of the primary process. Having said that, if this occurred and was known and approved by Cruz, OR, if he didn’t know but refuses to fire the people who did this, I won’t be able to vote for him, and will abstain if he gets the nomination. That’s a big position switch for me, but I don’t think I will be alone in thinking this way.
Excuses for what?
No, I think Trump fired off those tweets yesterday, and Ben’s team got all fired up and now Don gets to sit back and watch. It’s true, the things that were done were probably small beer, but this brouhaha is a preventive strike, ensuring that the Ted will be closely watched, and had better not try that shite on Trump.
Where are the tweets from ACTUAL RUBIO staffers?
You ask what is the difference, and that is the difference.
Did you hear the commentary from CNN? It was common sense that to leave the campaign trail was the same as giving up. CNN got their info, it was disseminated by several people, including Cruz campaign and not “spawned” there. Again, the tweet from CNN, SEVENTEEN minutes earlier should be your first clue. The apology was for not getting word out that Carson was returning to campaign trail. Did you get as upset when Trump deliberately portrayed Carson as a psychopath?
