Former President Jimmy Carter said Wednesday that if he had to choose, he'd pick Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump over rival Ted Cruz, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
At a lecture in Britain's House of Lords on Wednesday, Carter was asked to give his âassessmentâ of American politics.
After talking about his own victory in the 1976 Democratic presidential caucuses, he went on to say that Trump would be a better option than Cruz.
If he had to choose between them, âI think I would choose Trump, which may surprise some of you,â he said.
âThe reason is, Trump has proven already heâs completely malleable,â Carter said. âI donât think he has any fixed (positions) heâd go the White House and fight for. On the other hand, Ted Cruz is not malleable. He has far right-wing policies heâd pursue if he became president.â

Hell, if that's all it takes, please don't read where Cruz was agreeing with Bernie Sanders - the sudden flips can be disorienting....
I’d pick gut wrenching food poisoning over Carter. What’s your point?
Trump's impressive endorsements are adding up.
I couldn't agree with you more.
While giving a speech for the Carter Center in the U.K. Wednesday, the 39th president was asked who heâd prefer on the Republican side: Mr. Cruz or Mr. Trump. Acknowledging his response would be surprising, Mr. Carter chose Mr. Trump.
He âhas proven already heâs completely malleable,â Mr. Carter said. âOn the other hand, Ted Cruz is not malleable. He has far right wing policies heâd pursue if he became president.â
