CNN never said Carson was suspending his campaign, just that he wasn’t going directly to NH. Cruz embellished the story ro his advantage.
Then when CNN reported Carson was only going to Florida for one day, Cruz didn’t bother to pass that along.
Mrs. Carson disputed Cruz’s claim at one of the caucuses, but that wasn’t passed along either.
If the first but of embellished information could be passed fro caucus to caucus at lightning speed, so could the retraction.
Actually they pretty much hinted he was dropping out. It was released by CNN shortly before voting started.
Cruz's folks grabbed this info and didn't check it thoroughly enough. That was the mistake they made. But they didn't create this out if thin air.
They saw a report by CNN that indicated Carson may be taking a time out. No serious candidate takes a time out; right before an important primary.

Therein lies the actual problem. Releasing a new statement at 8 does not establish some absolute line in the interpretive sand. Just going to get more clothes is a dumb rationalization for why he appears to be ignoring the next major legs of the campaign
Still not buying the malice by Cruz or victim age of Carson.
