Sorry - I don’t see what you see.

While I get incensed over arrogant cops with no understanding of the constitution like most of you - what I see here is a guy who was resisting arrest.

You resist and you are going to have force used against you. That’s just reality. Which may include punches to the face. I do BJJ and those blows just weren’t that hard - IMO they were designed to distract not damage so that his partner could cuff him.

13 months for that? How the f*ck to you expect cops to arrest people? Ask nicely?

They cannot use tasers, they cannot use batons, they cannot use saps, the people who sit on juries have never been in a fight in their lives and they pass judgement. It’s ridicules.

That whole force should get the blue flue for a month. Being a cop any more seems like an impossible task.

Maybe I need to watch it again. Or maybe the probably racist dyke judge was just over the top.

I think you need to watch it again. Melendez went for the choke hold while the arrestee was prostrate on the ground and not offering any resistance -- and he kept choking for several minutes. Inability to breathe leads to panic, which is why I believe Melendez was trying to provoke resistance so he could beat the suspect more severely.

Twenty or thirty years ago the police were trained to deescalate tense situations. The cops would have ordered this detainee to turn around and place his hands behind his back, and would have used force only if he actually resisted. Today, the "good guys" start out yelling "Get on the f-ing round m-fer!" like you'd expect a gang of thugs to do. Respect for the police has declined along with policing standards, and this needs to be corrected before the citizenry's voluntary consent to authority is completely lost.
