WASHINGTON (AP) — After years of stymied efforts to address the nation's aging and congested highways and transit systems, Congress found the sweet spot for passage on Thursday — a 5-year, $305 billion bill laden with enough industry favors, parochial projects, safety improvements and union demands to gain overwhelming support.

The bill was approved 359 to 65 in the House, and 83 to 16 in the Senate. The bill now goes to the White House for President Barack Obama's signature.

Some road projects are necessary. This doesn’t appear to be one of them.

When you’re $19 Trillion in debt, what does another $305 Billion matter?

Out of that 305 billion, I wonder how many miles for highway will built or repaired in reality.

I hope to grab about 10% of that over the next 4 years.

Amtrak receives $10B. IMO it should be self-supporting or shut down. All these subsidies have to stop.

Government is like the bad charity that only puts 10% of the money to work and the rest goes to overhead, payola, parties, paychecks.

Seems strange that the Senate had 99 votes. How did cruz, Rubio and Paul end up voting if they are running around eating food and shaking hands. Yes I know they are still getting paychecks for that but I am shocked that perhaps they voted......none of them are in DC though. Something is strange.

I suspect probably more than 10 percent, but would seriously doubt that any more than 50% of the appropriation actually goes to pay for materials and direct labor to build/repair roads or bridges. The balance I am afraid will go to several levels of government management, studies, set asides and research into such transportation related subjects as “better ways to freeze rat sperm.”

You vote for republicans because you have trouble swallowing communism, Socialism or Islamism . (Hillery, Bernie and Bammy)
