WEST DES MOINES, IOWA â Jeff Weaver, the presidential campaign manager for Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.), says he is worried Hillary Clintonâs team is resorting to âirregularâ tactics to win the Iowa caucus on Feb. 1.
Weaverâs concern is based on what he described as an âalarmingâ letter received by a voter named Dennis Clifford in Hawarden, Iowa. Although Clifford is a Sanders supporter, the letter, from a Clinton campaign office in Sioux City, urged him to caucus for Clinton and identified a non-resident as his local precinct captain. That would not actually be prohibited, but Weaver, who admitted he wasnât familiar with the rules, claimed it indicated the Clinton campaign is âinfiltrating the caucuses with out-of-state paid staffers.â
Clifford, a retiree, told Yahoo about the letter, which he received earlier this month. It was written by a Clinton campaign staffer named Morgan Luther who was identified as the precinct captain for Hawarden.
âIâm Hillaryâs captain for your caucus and youâll find me at your caucus wearing a blue shirt that says âcaptain,ââ Luther wrote. âItâs my job to make sure all of Hillaryâs supporters are in attendance on caucus night to ensure Hillary wins.â
According to Clifford, he became concerned when he realized that the return address on the letter was a Clinton campaign office in Sioux City, Iowa, which is about 50 miles away from Hawarden. Clifford said he found it unusual that any campaign would name someone a precinct captain who was not from the precinct.

In a late telephone interview with MSNBC's Brian Williams and Rachael Maddow prior to her final speech on the eve of the Iowa Caucus, Hillary Clinton denied knowledge of the existence of a cellphone application that her campaign was earlier reported be using tomorrow to calculate if, when, and how many of her own caucusers to shift toward Martin O'Malley in the event that his caucus lacks the 15% viability threshold.
In response to Rachael's question regarding the existence of the App, Sec. Clinton proclaimed "This is the first I've heard if it" while describing the general tactic the app exploits as "a tradition". A curious set of remarks considering that the reported application is basically a technologically beefed-up version of the tactic used against her in 2008 by then Sen. Obama.
Why would she insist that she knows nothing about this application? Surly such a strategic tool would require the acceptance of an effective executive? It is not against the rules to shift your supporters to a rival's side to effect the earned delegate count of another rival. The ability to effectively organize is the purpose of the Iowa Caucus, and such innovations should be heralded as proof of a campaigns organizing prowess, unless...
This strange denial raises a few interesting questions.
1) Where and how exactly, does this "calculator" pull it's data? -or- Does this app pull data for the Microsoft Iowa Caucus Platform?
2) Was the coding in anyway developed with the assistance of or in consultation with Microsoft or it's corporate resources?
3) Was Microsoft involved in the development, and was such expertise offered to all candidates?
4) If Microsoft was involved, were they compensated for their services?
If you have the app, why fain ignorance of it's existence if there is no legal reason to deny it? Even before the 3 questions, her response to Maddow's questioning strains credulity. We all know it exists. This is no longer in doubt. Such a denial on it's face raises the honesty gap the Clinton Campaign has been dogged by for most of the campaign.
The moral of this story, if you're not comfortable with a tactic or a strategy, there's usually a reason. And if you can't even admit to the mildly acceptable, expect others to wonder why.

All good news for us if the BernieBots stay away from supporting Billary in the fall.
The Republican and Democratic caucuses in Iowa are not run exactly the same. In ours, the balloting is on paper, whereas the Democrats form into groups ad must have at least 15% of support from the room or is not reported.
So Hillary’s supporters could do the calculation then move over and support M’OM to make sure his small percentage is counted.
Otherwise, his anti-Hillary people could move over and support Sanders.
Man, people complain about requiring a drivers license. Show up for a couple hours to vote. No blacks have challenged this? Are there any in Iowa?
Supposedly Hillary complained in 2008 about Obama using these same tactics against her. Guess since they worked, she’s changed her mind...
Mostly in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Centerville, but not a lot. One of my co-workers in Des Moines was on jury duty more than she was at work it seemed, because of her ethnicity and lack of a criminal record.
Interesting! I recall reading articles in 2008 about Obama supporters supposedly intimidating Hillary supporters in some caucuses, to the point where her supporters weren’t allowed to speak or were somehow barred from entering. It was 8 years ago and my memory may be off.
Such a horribly corrupt system. It’s a shame it’s in any way associated with “voting”. Neighbors, family members, Congregation members, employers etc seeing who you are “voting” for is pure third world.

It’s Hillary! She wouldn’t know how to honestly answer anything even when it’s pointless not to do so. If she’s not lying, she’s either sick or dead!
“Show up for a couple hours to vote. “
Insane
That’s only in the Democratic Party side, in the GOP you write it down on a piece of paper.
Don’t worry, she’ll send you some unmarked classified email
as an apology after she stomps you in the caucus.
Bernnnnnnn!
that’s why I’m excited about what happens on the dem side.
I remember and was shocked Obie pulled it off in Iowa
I’d love to see hilda’s voters go to O’Malley to get him to 15% and have Sanders win that 1.
Bernie is just realizing the Klintons play dirty?
Thank the lord for small miracles. I saw the other system on TV. Of course the coercive system would be democrat.
I agree, you should be able to vote privately and that is it
Hillary was so nice to him... when she thought he wasn’t a threat.
Bernie agreed to 3 more debates. Hillary was avoiding them because she was ahead. Why bother?
New Hampshire apparently allows folks to drive over from other states and if they say they will vote in November in NH they get to vote there. ?? Apparently Obama used that in 2008 to be Hilldabeast.
There are lots of blacks in the cities in Iowa. Some got really enthused about Obama, but I don’t know where they are on this election.
If Bernie can’t handle a couple of charming young ladies of Color, how’s he ever going to handle the Beast?
This is how Obama nailed her in all the caucus states.
Did anyone remotely think the Clinton machine wouldn’t stack the deck in their favor? History repeats itself over and over again, the Clinton’s not only cooked the books, they wrote the books.
