Now, there's nothing wrong with that; in fact, it's a good idea in general, but only as long as you actually, well, have the money to spend. And by 2005 or so, Venezuela didn't.So it's good until you run out of other people's money? Fascio-Socialists are idiots. And that universally applies regardless of whether you are running Venezuela into the ground or writing for the Washington Post.

"When a person goes to a shop and finds that prices have gone up," the new minister wrote, "they are not in the presence of 'inflation,' " but rather "parasitic" businesses that are trying to push up profits as much as possible. Wreckers. Those fiendish capitalists! Of course, once the shelves are bare and the money coming in doesn't suffice to restock them, they stay bare. For good. I'm guessing the new minister has never run so much as a cigarette stand...

The Bisignis Institute think tank recently published a report “Manufactured Scarcity: An Examination of the Root Causes of Venezuela’s Food Shortage and Prospects for the Recovery” about this issue. Their findings — and SOLUTIONS — are very good. 1) Increase revenue. 2) Improve the rule of law. 3) Work with private enterprise! http://www.bisignis.org/venezuelas-food-shortage
