That Reagan-O'Neill "friendship" or partnership is bogus. O'Neill hated Reagan, but there were enough Democrats in Congress who were willing to vote with Reagan that Tip had to tread lightly sometimes. Reagan was willing to talk with Congressional leaders from the other side, and that was something (Obama's barely willing to talk with those from his own side), but Chris Matthews likes to manipulate the past for his own purposes. No, it wasn’t friendship; but as I said, “frenemies.” In spite of their deep opposition in beliefs about how best to govern, they remained civil, cordial and good-humored — in point of contrast to the hatefulness, skullduggery and open incivility of the Obama regime.
