Sen. Ted Cruz, it turns out, has friends in Washington after all, and he's ready to put them on display.
The Republican presidential candidate has built a reputation as one of the members of Congress most unloved by fellow lawmakers - an image he cultivates as part of his outsider persona.
His Senate colleagues have denied him procedural courtesies, like getting votes on the Senate floor, and have blamed him for forcing them back to Washington for weekend votes. Mr. Cruz says the slights show that he is a true outsider who has the courage to fight what he calls the Washington cartel.
But in recent weeks, Republican front-runner Donald Trump, who is also presenting himself as a Washington outsider, has portrayed Mr. Cruz not as an outsider but as someone who has no allies in the capital at all. The criticism was compounded when some establishment Republicans, including Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and former Sen. Bob Dole, criticized the Texas senator as extremist. Mr. Trump has also called into question Mr. Cruz's eligibility for the presidency, given his birth in Canada.
Mr. Cruz, though, has allies within the House, where a cadre of hardline conservatives plan to go to Iowa in the closing period before the Feb. 1 caucuses to build support for him through speeches and door-to-door canvassing.
"I've seen Ted Cruz in action as a U.S. senator stand firm when there is a lot of pressure to compromise or cave in," said Rep. Alex Mooney (R., W. Va.), a freshman Republican who met Mr. Cruz when the two mingled on the House floor during a 2015 joint meeting of Congress. Mr. Mooney is going to Iowa on Friday and plans to stay through Monday, knocking on doors and encouraging Cruz supporters to turn out at the caucuses....

No, Trump said everyone in the Senate does. Does he have any support in the Senate? Any endorsements? Sen. Sessions? Sen. Lee? Nope.
Very exciting primary this year. Total chaos voters.
Why This Former Trump Fan Doesnât Support Him Anymore
Who’s dime are they traveling on?
TPA is the bill which grants Authority, and sets guidlines for the president to negotiate a Trade treaty. So what we are never allowed to trade with anyone??... or take so long to get the authority so that the trade opportunities are no longer valid. Do you mean the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015 Sponsored by Sen. Corker, Co-sponsored by Sen. Alexander, Sessions, Paul, Ernst, Scott, Cruz, as well as others. A bill that required the President to turn the treaty in for approval, which he had said he wasn’t going to do. Calling for Immigration reform, that depends on how you want to reform it..... if you want to fix the problems, and make it easier to come legally; as opposed to allowing our system to take so long that people decide to come illegally; or To fix the broken system in which we release criminal illegals instead of deporting them. Then I am also pro reform, as I suspect must conservatives would be as well. If the thought is to grant a pathway to citizenship, of amnesty, then actually meaningful reform is the wrong route to take. The H1-B visas increase, was an amendment to the gang of eight amnesty bill, designed to show that the democrats, as well as the establishment republicans, were after nothing but more votes and money. Cruz’s record has been the same since he started in public affairs, with minor changes like the phase out of ethanol subsidies over five years. Cruz in 2013 wanted to end them immediately, however what he learned after study is that removing them all at once does more harm than leaving them in place; the only way to safely remove them is to phase them out over time. Show me a man who after facing the truth will never change his position, and I will show you a fool.
“TPA is the bill which grants Authority, and sets guidlines for the president to negotiate a Trade treaty. So what we are never allowed to trade with anyone??”
1. Why do you think Obama wants TPA/TPP? Do you think he wants it to further the strength and power of the American economy?
2. Have you ever noticed that most of the consumer goods you buy are not made in the USA?
3. Have you ever noticed that there are 94 million Americans who are not working? Have you ever connected the dots?
4. These trade deals are not so much about trade as in destroying U.S. sovereignty and bringing about a one world hegemony of internationalists.
True but being for Trade negotiation authority, and then being against the deal that comes back is ok. Free Trade is good, the TPP is bad. TPA is okay because all it is is the rules and guidelines for the negotiations. Taking Obama’s stance on something to smear Cruz an entirely different candidate is kind of off the mark.
Yes I have noticed that trade goods are predominantly coming from oversees. Lets ruminate on why that is for a second, could it be that all of those other countries don’t charge near as much tax as we do. Thereby making it cheaper to make there than here. There is also the Minimum wage driving costs up, as well as all the regulations put in place by the Federal Government.
If only there was a candidate, who not only wants to shrink the government; but also has a history of defending our national sovereignty, as well as our constitution......... someone like Ted Cruz.
The joblessness rate is a result of the government interference in the free market in the form of Subsidies, Regulations, Price Caps, Minimum wage, out of control government spending, disregard for our Constitution and crippling taxes........... if only we had a candidate who articulated these problems better than, “our leaders are stupid”............if only we had a candidate with ideas on how to fix the problem other than, “trust me , I will be great for the economy.”.............. like you guessed it Ted Cruz
“Yes I have noticed that trade goods are predominantly coming from oversees. Lets ruminate on why that is for a second, could it be that all of those other countries donât charge near as much tax as we do.”
No, the reason is that wages are way below the American average. That is why our industry is moving to Mexico.
“...but also has a history of defending our national sovereignty...”
Those trade deals end our national sovereignty. Even Cruz has stated that. Did not keep him from voting for TPA.
