ISIS jihadis eradicated from Western Syria as Russia batters militants with bombing raids

KREMLIN defence chiefs have claimed victory over Islamic State in western Syria after 24 hours of intense bombing raids meant Syrian troops could wrestle vast swathes of territory from the jihadis.

Russian warplanes defeated ISIS militants who were held up in Latakia province, which is home to Russia's airbase on the Mediterranean coast.

More than 35 square miles of jihadi land have been regained by the Moscow-backed anti-extremist coalition.

Strategically vital Rabia was one of 28 towns which fell to the Syrian army, the Russian Defence Ministry said.

The Kremlin claims almost 500 terrorist targets in Syria were hit by Russian airstrikes over the weekend, with 169 sorties flown between January 22-24.

Putin at least is willing to do what it takes, compared to the Obamination.

Based on what I see going on in Western Europe, In 5 years, half of Europe will be begging Russia/Putin to intervene on their behalf.

Attack the muslims, they lose.
Kill them, and they lose.
Send them money and send them warning messages before you drop bombs on the empty desert where they used to be, and tell your soldiers not to shoot, and they win.

And that would be the Eastern half. Gee, you don't think that's consistent with Vlad's goal of "putting the band back together" and re-creating the Soviet Empire, do you?

Think about it. Without Putin, ISIS would eventually be on Israel's northern border. Who would have thought 10 years ago that Russia would be taking military action that directly benefits Israel?

Soviet? Czarist empire of the 18th century? Pan Slavic alliance of the 19th century? Am I the only one who reads history books at least up until the Napoleonic era?

Do you think Eastern Europeans have short memories of Russian atrocities? Poland was recently asking for NATO nuclear weapons to be based on its soil.

Probably true. If I had to guess, based on trends, and history, I would guess that continued Islamization of Turkey will lead to more disagreements with Russia, Israel and Greece.

I wouldn’t be surprised at some point that seeing the stupidity of Germany and Merkel with their Moslems, that Greece may decide to cast their lot with Russia, both economically and defense-wise. Also, they are both Orthodox, not Catholic or Protestant primarily.

------

Hungary is Russia's biggest booster in Europe so I would say yes. Poland is more upset it is being cut off / bypassed from the Russian gas pipelines to Germany than from some memory of of a past atrocity.

It does place the Eastern Europeans in a quandry. In 1939, the Poles were given a choice of Germans or Russians. Their attitude was “With the Germans we lose our country, with the Russians we lose our souls.” Today, they have a different choice. Do they stay tied to the suicidal west, and eventually let the Moslem tide flow into their countries? Or do they turn to Putin’s Russia as an alternative?

Maybe they lose their souls either way.

Before 1914, the “Balance of Power” of Europe acted as counterweights to Russian expansion. Well, all of the European powers acted as counterweights to each other, and had for centuries. It was primarily the policy of Great Britain to make sure no one single power gained hegemony on the Continent, so that she would be free to build an overseas Empire. After 1945, the “Balance of Power” was only maintained between the two Cold War power blocs of the United States and the Soviet Union. The European states were no longer capable of forming, on their own, any sort of effective counterweight to Soviet Russia.

Today, while Russia is no longer as powerful as the old Soviet Union, the United States is no longer an effective European counterweight. Maybe under competent leadership, we could be again. Maybe not. But today, we are not. Western Europe is committing suicide. We aren’t stopping it. If Eastern Europe wants to stand against Islam, it may have to chose Russia to help them do it. They may not have a choice because once Western Europe is gone, and we are out of the picture, they get devoured by the Bear anyway.

It’s a totally different situation than existed before 1914, and gives Russia the opportunity to re-create the level of dominance they had in Eastern Europe under the Soviets, and which they never had under the Czars.

And that is exactly what Putin would like to do.

False history. The fear was GERMAN expansion prior before 1914. It was such a great fear it made Great Britain and France allies - something we take for granted these days and made France and Russia allies.

So I rate your history report an F.

They already are ... the Russian and the Syrian Army just drove out the last of the rebels - not ISIS or AQ - on the Golan -— ISIS is also in Gaza.

These action do not benefit Israel in the least, just the opposite.
