RE:”When you have genuine affection for someone, it's easy to block out his faults. In Trump's case, this is being taken to such an extreme that it's starting to feel like we're in Jonestown a few days before the Kool-Aid is handed out. Tell me I'm wrong if you like, but even Trump made reference to that when he said,
“And you know what else they say about my people? The polls! They say I have the most loyal people. Did you ever see that? Where I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose any voters. It's incredible.”
Since when do conservative engage in this type of blind loyalty towards ANY politician? “

Or on the 2 Corinthians thing, Trump just blamed Tony Perkins for giving him that line to read, admitting that he was being a phony on it.

But Trump kicks butts

He calls Cruz a Canadian.

He calls Kelly a bimbo

He calls Bill Clinton an abuser.

He has NYC values

He says Hillary can't satisfy her husband.

That's all that matters. He is fighting.

Very well thought out article. Explaines Trump to T....and as Trump likes to say "True, it's True".

I am a reformed Ted Cruz supporter. Thank God.

"Rockefeller Republican"?

Dream on.

Trump's a Democrat and a big government statist at heart.

Contrary to what the author says about Trump's negatives, Trump will win the Presidency if nominated by the Repubicans.

Trump will simply tack Left after the convention and win the hearts of the socialists in our midst. Then he will govern from the Left, single payer and all, leaving we rubes in the dust.

Many here think that he is a sacrificial lamb for Hillary. In truth, Trump will be a winner, a big government winner.

Then dare criticize Trump! You will be treated as the Trumpsters on FR treat us.

we'll have our third straight lose/lose election where most conservatives will have a candidate who doesn't truly represent their views as the GOP nominee.

That's impossible. We always choose the candidate that represents our views. We just lie to ourselves about what our views really are.

Trumps a fun guy and he's done good things restructuring the debate this cycle. He's bothered me little, but it's the weird messianic goofiness of many of his supporters that has disgusted me. They way they only want to shout down and rah-rah away any discussion of his myriad flaws and bad history. It's been so fanboi hero worship - behavior I always associated with the numbskulled left wing. As conservatives, I would have expected a thorough vetting and examination of his credentials, temperament and history. Instead, it's been like "shut up and leave Trump alone! Did you see the way he made fun of Jeb! He's better than Reagan! He'll win all 50 states! Black people love him too!"

Like smitten schoolgirls.

Trump is erratic. Trump is personally vicious. As a result, Trump’s unfavorables are sky high. Trump has given campaign money to Hillary and the Democrats. If elected, he will be only slightly better than a Democrat.

Hope people read the whole thing & think about it.

I don’t think the “political establishment” can or will be defeated with Trump, or with any other candidate. Cruz, IMO, is the only one with the brains, morals, and perseverance to fight against it, and he will need people with like character to fight against it, “inch by inch.” But defeat it? A whole lot of people in our leadership will have to be saved by the grace of God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ in order for any kind of true, lasting change. May His brethren continually pray for our leaders and nation and stand up for the truth of the Word of God.

And may the God in heaven, the one and only true God, have mercy on our nation!

In responding, briefly, the first question to John Hawkins is: if you really feel this adamantly that he is a walking, talking one-man disaster, why did you ever support Trump in the first place?
To address some of the more serious claims, consider the following:
* Trump has been a long, long time supporters of military veterans and their causes. I know this from a friend of mine who leads one of the largest veteran organizations in the country. So “doesn’t care about POWs” stuff is nonsense. He was speaking FOR the POWs and their compatriots who feel that McCain betrayed them.
* As to his alleged weakness against Hillary in the general election, until Trump got on the campaign trail everybody expected her to win the presidency. He is the only one with the balls to call her and her husband out on the countless rapes and cover-ups. In an election between a disliked, untrusted treasonous felon, and a reality television star, who do you think will win?
* The same can be said of the two major issues that confront us in our time: uncontrolled immigration and jihad/the Muslim Brotherhood. Before Trump made these issues plain topics of discussion, before he broke the fever of political correctness, the debate around the two most important of the day was bland and unproductive. He did that, not any other candidate.
* Regarding whether he is a “true” or “real” or “National Review” conservative, the likely answer is no. His candidacy is issue-driven. It is not based on an ossified theoretical ideology that has not been in practice since the late 1980s. We can keep talking like pseudo-scholars about the virtues of the free flow of capital and labor, and this will be used as an excuse to continually import foreigners, many whom are uneducated and have no intention of swearing allegiance to the United States. LEGAL immigration should be embraced.
* As for the charge that he is a dealmaker, that is a trait, not a flaw. Deals can be good or bad. The ability to strike the right deal is priceless. Striking the wrong one could be catastrophic. If Donald Trump strikes the right deals on immigration, the economy/budget, and defeating ISIS/Iran/jihad/Muslim Brotherhood, he will rank as a GREAT president, without any doubt whatsoever.

Hawkins reveals himself to be an A-Hole of the first order, a prime candidate for views at DU.

He says he started out liking Trump, and then began a process to not like him.. Bullshit.

Most people start out not liking Donald and then come to a realization that he makes one hell of a lot of sense, and he has the balls to say it.

No sale Hawkins.

Look at all of this and tell me that you trust someone who is this petty, immature and erratic with the responsibility of handling the IRS, the DOJ, the DHS, our military and our nuclear codes. I certainly wouldn't. It's fine to say that you don't trust Sanders or Hillary either, but if even many Republicans don't think he's together enough to handle it, why would the American people?

Because ethnic/racial identity is more important to them than either G-d's truth or ideological principles.

A well written article providing food for thought.

I share his concerns about Trump's temperament. The way one conducts himself in public is important in all walks of life. It is also indicative of how one will conduct himself in the future.

His tendency to belittle and demean opponents and detractors is bothersome. Nor is it new.

Is that how he will deal with anyone opposing his policies as POTUS? Christie on steroids.

What happens when the majority of us on the right oppose a policy he is trying to implement? Will he resort to calling us losers and whack jobs? After all, we are just nasty people; nobody likes us, everyone loves him.

While 90% of Freepers are at the ‘if X is the nominee, will you vote for him’ stage, I am still deciding my primary vote.

Temperament is but one consideration. Should I overlook behavior I consider beneath the dignity of the office of POTUS?

...the polls have also consistently shown that he loses to Hillary Clinton.

Well!

That's settles it for me!
