A super PAC supporting Ted Cruz is airing a new TV ad in Iowa that goes for the policy jugular against Donald Trump, equating his past statements on universal health care to positions held by President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
The ad, created by Keep the Promise I and shared first with NRO, warns of yet another big-government health care program: "TrumpCare."
"First there was HillaryCare. ⦠Then there was ObamaCare," the narrator says, knitting together video footage of both Democrats arguing for "universal health care."
Then a still-shot of Trump appears, and the narrator intones: "We can't afford TrumpCare." The ad splices together portions of Trump's "60 Minutes" interview from September with Scott Pelley, in which Trump tells the CBS anchor, "Everybody has to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say" When Pelley presses him - "Universal healthcare?" - Trump responds, "I am going to take care of everybody."
"Who pays for it?" Pelley asks. "The government's gonna pay for it," Trump replies.
It’s even worse than Obamacare...it’s full single payer socialized medicine!
I seriously doubt there are that many undecideds at this point in time.
I love how Cruz says in every speech that he’s not going to get down in the gutter and sling slurs. He needs to add “I’ll let my super pac do that.”
It’s politics... They’re politicians... That’s the way they do it...
Repeal it and replace it with air. Freedom!
What slur? It's Trump telling you in his own words what he wants to do.
Not a Trump supporter but I have no problem with what he said, if it’s done right.
From the man that helped bring us Justice Roberts.
Now is the time to #DumpTrump!
Well, the Fox poll that everyone was touting here today had 33% of the respondents either uncommitted or unsure they will vote for their initial choice. So that is a pretty big pool of potential votes.
I don’t care what the Fox poll says. A lot of people won’t answer the question truthfully. I stand by my remark.
"Ad exposing how Trump has used eminent domain to bulldoze an elderly woman's home to create a limo parking lot" Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) January 22, 2016
Problem with the ad is that it's a lie. Trump in that interview wasn't talking about government funded universal healthcare. He was talking about opening up markets for cross-state insurance companies, among other things. The "government funded" line is straight out out of context.
Cruz's campaign is depending on lies to win its election in Iowa. Question is, are Iowans too beaten down to begin with with deceptive ads that they'll fall for it?
“I love how Cruz says in every speech that heâs not going to get down in the gutter and sling slurs. He needs to add âIâll let my super pac do that.â”
Yes, and he’s just “announced” that he may not win Iowa. Dumb move on his part!
Trump said That about people who can’t afford HC that the rest of us are paying for anyway.
That’s at least two great Cruz ads using Trump’s own words against him. Look for more excellent ads and Iowans moving to Cruz.
The Trump calling Iowans stupid is going to change a lot of minds.
Cruz recommended two very conservative judges to Bush, and Bush ignored his advice.
Just like Megan Kelly got down in the dirt and quoted Trump's own words back at him and is now in the minds of Trump supporters disqualified to quote more of his own words back at him in a national "debate."
Yes and if Ted Cruz is planning on getting rid of Medicaid, he should say so.
