A new Russian poll questions the validity of Russian polling results. When Russians were asked about how comfortable they feel expressing their views on current events, more than a quarter said they were fearful, Russian newspaper Kommersant reported Friday.
"The problem of socially acceptable responses in surveys is nothing new," said Konstantin Kalachev, a political consultant who spoke with Kommersant. "This is called a social spiral of silence. People follow the majority. They are afraid to stand out, superstitiously prefer not to stir the pot, and they answer with pre-readied, upbeat mantras."

Reported in the Moscow Times as well.
There is a certain element of that here, increasingly. This is what “political correctness” is all about. A wrong comment can cost you your career.
Same as here, unfortunately....
Ask yourself this, at your workplace, would you admit to being for Trump?
How can anyone honestly determine such data??
I suspect a certain percentage of Carson supporters are Trump supporters staying safely under the radar. A Carson bumper sticker is less likely to get your car vandalized. Saying you’re for Carson helps to shut up your Dem friends if you are, say, a teacher.
Interesting, a Russian poll respondent is afraid to respond negatively to a poll question unless that question is about his fear of responding negatively to that question.
Ruling by fear and terror has been the Kremlin tactic for hundreds of years.
And if only 25% admitted to being fearful, the actual number is obviously much higher.
