I don’t know about them being atheists, but they are very much Marxist in the larvae stage ... Ever hear of Liberation Theology? It is a Marxist corruption of Catholic theology that was purposely introduced into South America by the Soviet KGB. It is the source of all the “social justice” movements.

but more importantly, they ARE illegal aliens violating U.S. law, AND as uneducated 3rd world peasants, they’ll be wards of we U.S. taxpayers, perhaps for life and into future generations AND VERY likely to be Democrat voters, most likely the type to vote for future Bernie Sanders.
Central American children are terrified of being swept into an MS-13 gang, or raped as a gang concubine. If they are not, their parents certainly are. Can you imagine the level of fear that would let you send your young preteens off on a 3,000 mile trip to somewhere? Also can you imagine the faith in the essential goodness of Americans to take that risk??
Regarding hopes of a Trump/Cruz ticket, it appears that Trump has really been hitting Cruz hard with the negatives.
