I’ve been here since 1997. We go through this craziness every four years, and I’ve learned to keep my head down until tempers cool. I’m not going anywhere.
Yep. This is Year 18 for me and this sort of thing doesn't really bother me anymore. The nation will abide. And people who want to be here will be here even if their candidate doesn't come out on top.
I stuck around, for example, after my man Dennis Kucinich and his little furry woodland creatures didn't make the cut in '04. Got stinkin' drunk with Grandfather Twilight and brushed the whole thing off. They laughed at me then for thinking that a bunny, a weasel, and a magpie couldn't form a cabinet, but I got the last laugh when the current clown car full of Communist relics, amoral bribe-takers, mental cases and sexual degenerates came rolling in in '08. Maybe Kucinich peaked too soon.
And I am sadly reconciled to the fact that my man Yeb!'s vision of cruising to the White House in his limousine turned out to be the fantasy of a guy on an adult tricycle with one of those yellow pennants stuck to the side and his minders hoping that he gets to the Facility without killing himself. Dream on, Yebbie! Dream big!
And so the coming ten months of passion, outrage, and the placing of mortal human beings on stratospheric pedestals of unvarying moral rectitude. Political office is, actually, a blot on human dignity but that doesn't appear to deter anyone from seeking it. I don't want to be "led", I do want to be represented, but I'll be happy if I can weather the whole thing without having to shoot anybody.
