Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump got a boost for his campaign Saturday when Sen. Chuck Grassley appeared at a a rally here for the billionaire businessman.
Mr. Grassley, who is easily one of the most popular Republican politicians in Iowa, had previously distanced himself from Mr. Trump, including publicly opposing his plan to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the United States.
In a speech, Mr. Grassley stopped short of endorsing Mr. Trump. Instead he called for Trump supporters to keep up the energy they showed at rallies throughout the state and turn out to caucus for Republicans on Feb. 1.
He came as close as possible to giving Mr. Trump a Grassley stamp of approval, including using Mr. Trump's campaign slogan.
"We have an opportunity again to make america great again," Mr. Grassley told the crowd filling an auditorium at Central College.
"I'm excited to see the big crowds because of the big energy that comes with it," he said. "And that's what it is going to take for us to win back the White House in November."
He said that he was invited by Mr. Trump to attend the rally and that he appreciated having Mr. Trump's support.
Still, Mr. Gassley chose to attended the rally at Central College while Mr. Trump's chief rival for the nomination, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, campaigned elsewhere in the Hawkeye State.
"We need you. The energy that's shown here has to be repeated every day between now and the election. Go to the caucuses and show America that Iowa voters matter," said Mr. Grassley.

Chuck’s running for reelection.
;-))
Trump to Triumph!
“Next, Hillary Clinton will climb aboard.”
The next thing Hillary Clinton needs to climb aboard is the prison bus.
Chuck Grassley has a very conservative voting record, he is getting a little senile needs to retire but I have no complaints about his record!
Oh THAT is older than the “COMMIE” being spit out at me, along with inane Bible verses, of course. :-)
As I stated when the whole Ethanol thing erupted, with Check Grassley in the Senate, or any Senator from Iowa in the Senate for that matter, Ethanol is here to stay.
A President Cruz will never change that. No President will ever change that, which made that whole Cruz / Trump battle a complete waste of time, including all the FR Butt Hurt between the warring factions.
It’s amazing that you guys miss the whole ‘game’ by a mile.
How’d the Beck rally go today? Talk about powerful endorsements, whew!
“Which is one of the main reasonâs I will vote for Trump.”
Oooops I meant to say Cruz. Butterfly ballot, I guess.
Handwriting, meet wall.
Grassley already seeing the FY13-14 budget under Pres. Trump.
Yes, I am. I don’t want to be run by the establishment. I want it destroyed. I’m not looking for someone that just goes along to get along and will continue to grow government.
Definitely not. I wouldn’t want any establishment candidate supporting Cruz. I relish the fact that Washington hates him because they know he’ll destroy their corrupt little system. He doesn’t care about his “brand” or putting his name on buildings and walls. He cares about restoring federalism and returning it system of government to the way our founders intended it to be run.
You won’t get any argument from me on that. I think that it should have happened in the 1990s.
As Sarah “I-can-see-Russia-from-Alaska” Palin might say...
Serious question, what is it about that line that drives leftists and well, gope people insane? I don’t get it, can you please explain to me, honestly.
I don't know. You'd have to ask one of them. I'm as right wing as it gets.
Hank
ok, what is it about that line that drives you crazy enough to use it like it’s a bad thing?
I'll be delighted to answer ANY question you have that isn't phrased as an insult.
Hank
As Sarah âI-can-see-Russia-from-Alaskaâ Palin might say..
This is truly an honest question. I’m sure you know that Tina Fey tried to misquote it to ridicule Sarah, so why is this line so bad? Honest question.
“In fact, this is another unspoken unendorsement of Cruz. From one of his Senate GOP colleagues no less.”
Yep! The people we’ve complained about for YEARS are lining up behind Trump. That speaks volumes. But it isn’t a good sound for conservatives...
There. Was that so hard? Here is your answer.
Charlie Gibson: "What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?"
Palin: "They're our next-door neighbors. And you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska."
THAT is the response of a doofus.
I can see 5 or 6 of my neighbors' houses from my front yard. That gives me no particular insight as to what is motivating the occupants.
If I stand in my company parking lot, I can see 4 other companies. I don't think that helps me understand why they do what they do there.
Every day I pass hundreds of cars in the street. I see the cars. Often, I can even make out the occupants. I presume to acquire no understanding of their motivations about anything from that.
Hank
I would hope you are not so uninformed as to think that was the entirety of the conversation about Russia? LOL ANybody who does that kind of thing is just desperate. If you don’t like being told you are using tactics of the left, then don’t use tactics of the left.
