In 2013 and 2014, Donald Trump Funded John Boehner and Mitch McConnell Against the Tea Party
The Resurgent ^ | January 22, 2016 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 01/22/2016 9:09:51 PM PST by TBP

In 2013, the tea party rallied to Matt Bevin against Donald Trump. RedState and tea party groups around the country swung into action in an ultimately unsuccessful bid to get Matt Bevin through the primary against Mitch McConnell. We were completely out-funded by establishment interests and Washington lobbyists.

It turns out, one of those establishment interests was Donald J. Trump.

In 2013, Donald Trump gave $220,000.00 to organizations, many of them dedicated to stamping out the Tea Party. From Karl Rove’s American Crossroads to Mitch McConnell’s Super PAC, Trump spread out money. Rove got $50,000.00 and McConnell got $60,000.00. Trump also wrote a check to McConnell’s campaign directly for $5,200.00.

What’s more, Trump also gave $100,000.00 to the Congressional Leadership Fund, a Republican Establishment PAC that was created to crush conservatives at the behest of John Boehner.

Running as an anti-establishment Republican now and courting Sarah Palin is a distraction from two stark facts.

In 2010, with the rise of the Tea Party, Trump supported Democrats against conservatives. In 2014, Donald Trump supported the Republican Establishment as it sought to crush the tea party and conservatives.

It is seriously disingenuous to think Trump is somehow now against the very candidates and organizations he funded just two years ago — candidates and politicians he is already again starting to say nice things about.

The “leverage” thing in terms of playing enemies against each other was something the Israelis worked on from the beginning.

I can see the short term benefits from the Kissinger perspective on China but long term with China for example a military conflict seems likely at some point.

In the interim business dealings and the ‘relationship’ with China have meant looking the other way at the tyranny in charge there.

The Iraq thing was the wrong thing, what dictated it was the need to look like something was being done after 9/11 keeping in mind multinational business relationships with the Saudis and Gulf Arabs prevented them from being dealt with more firmly. I think they went back to the old playbook to go after Saddam Hussein.

Pakistani intelligence created the Taliban that ruled Afghanistan and gave the Saudi Bin Laden a base. But Pakistan has nukes negating a military response to them.

Bin Laden was hiding right in the middle of Pakistan and when he was taken out the Pakistanis had a fit.

General Curtis Lemay was the Air Force Chief of Staff who retired in 1965 and became running mate of third party presidential candidate George Wallace.

It was said Lemay was leaving because he could not agree with the nonsensical bombing policy in Vietnam.

A biography of Lemay was published in the last decade or so
saying that for getting into politics in 1968 Lemay believes he was audited by the IRS during Richard Nixon’s first term.

Warren Kozak was the author of the book titled “Lemay: The Life and Wars of General Curtis Lemay”.

Not speaking for anyone else here, but I’m feeling twice bitten, thrice shy re: trusting chameleon politicians. I trust Cruz as a solid conservative. He’s the ONLY conservative running. If the left manages to destroy him, then we on the right have lost everything, IMO.

The only ones attacking him are Trump and the Establishment who are one in the same!!!

And on NBC, he said he’d revoke all of 0bama’s executive orders (good), but when asked if that means he won’t govern by executive order, he said, “I’ll do good ones.”

Touchback Trump doesn’t get the problem with that.

This is the progressive conceit — that the problem isn’t the government, its size, scope, or cost, but the people running it, and if the right people are just put in charge, then it will work well.

There is no such thing as good Executive orders.. it’s one thing to give orders to our minions to run their office a certain way but to tell your minions to go out and create havoc with the population is another!!!

"Yet, John Roberts think that mandating the purchase of health insurance is constitutionally permitted under the taxing power."

This basically is why I cannot get excited about voting for Ted Cruz. Both Roberts and Cruz were indoctrinated in Harvard Law School imo.

In fact, why did not Cruz take a few minutes to read the Supreme Court case excerpts previously posted in this thread, excerpts which indicate that the states have never expressly constitutionally delegated to the feds the specific power to regulate INTRAstate healthcare issues, instead of reading from Dr. Seuss to filibuster Obamacare?

Sen. Cruz ends anti-Obamacare talkathon after more than 21 hours

Also, regarding Cruzs ”promise” to get rid of the IRS, note that even though regulatory agency IRS is illegal under the Constitution imo, no president can get rid of the IRS without the consent of Congress.

Remember in November !

When patriots elect Trump, or whatever conservative they elect, they will also need to elect a new, state sovereignty-respecting Congress that will be willing to work within its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers to support the president.

Such a Congress will also probably be willing to fire state sovereignty-ignoring, activist justices.

“Frankly, Trump is a conservative”

Really? What objective basis do you have for that statement? What conservative beliefs has he fought for, let alone held for more than 2 years?

It was a serious question. You obviously don’t have a serious answer which destroys the very point of your post.

Trump praised Obama in 2009 and Hillary in 2008, and DeBlasio in 2013.

Taht was a serious answer. That you can’t see that destroys the very point of your post.

The FACT is that the Establishment likes Trump, or at least is willing to accept him. He’s one of them — a deal maker who just wants to get along.

What really scares the living daylights out of them is a reformer who is willing to stand up to them. Ted Cruz has proven himself in that regard. That’s why he’s hated by the Establishment. They would rather he Trump, as Lott, Dole, Hatch, and others have said.

The standard Trumpkin answer to avoid having to tax themselves to make a substantive response to anything.

What a joke. The "establishment" hates Trump. Just look at the manifesto from TNR. That wasn't directed to Cruz. Look at the GOP response to Obama's State of the Union Speech. It was a GOP-E attack on Trump, approved by GOP leadership.

The only they might be a little more receptive to Trump now is that they see his nomination as getting to the point of being inevitable. They would be "warming" to Cruz or anyone else that was had such a commanding presence. It's the old "if you can't beat him, join him" philosophy. Same exact thing happened with Reagan.

I love Ted Cruz, but I'm not so blind as to not see the obvious. The GOP Establishment has been out to destroy for months. And now you want us to believe they suddenly like I'm. Give me a break.

Who should I believe, you or Bob Dole, Orrin Hatch, and Trent Lott?

Trump is Establishment through and through.

It’s Cruz who frightens them.

Dole, Hatch and Lott have ZERO influence on anything. Those in power have done everything they can to destroy Trump. If you can’t admit that there’s nothing else to discuss. Get back to me when you want to have an adult conversation.

They’re elders of the GOPe. What they say influences the GOPe. They’re well respected in those circles.

Besides, they wouldn’t have said it without some legitimate backing from the Establishment.

Face it, your boy is the Establishment’s boy.

Balance of power geopolitical strategy predated the Israelis by several centuries at least. It was key to the British Empire—how a relatively small island nation could rule so much of the world.

The U.S. is the natural inheritor of this strategy. Our major strategic weakness as a world power is limited manpower.

Pakistan is a U.S. ally. It was part of the encirclement of the USSR and retains its strategic importance. I don’t think their nukes have anything to do with their U.S. relationship. More of a deterrent, in their minds and politics, against India.

Do you really believe the bin Laden story? I think it is fishy as Hell, including the alleged burial at sea. I think he was dead long before, probably not long after Battle of Tora Bora.

I m voting for the conservative candidate that I hope will be conservative though he has been a liberal most of his life and that I think has the best chance of winning the presidency.

You can change the equation all you want, but the answer will always be the same. We re all going to vote for who we think will be the best conservative candidate that can win the Presidency.

Vote Trump
