I like your argument, but to stray from the philosophy of Buckley and Reagan is fool hearty based on a pseudo-conservative's populist message. Remember that 1980 Conservative resurgence was based on the ashes of FDR's New Deal, LBJ's Great Society, and the absolute disaster of the Carter Administration. Once we hit rock bottom again, true principled conservatism will reign again.

Exactly what Buckley recommended — but it may well be Trump. He is not in charge of NR’s narratives, and is under no obligation to restrain himself into failure as the GOPe seems to want to do, when our country is going down the tube financially and many, many other ways.
