We're More Divided As A Nation Than Ever, And This Poll On Obama's Legacy Shows It
Huffington Post ^ | 1/21 | Ariel Levy

When President Barack Obama delivered his final State of the Union address last week, he was speaking to two very different countries.

One of them he leaves happier and better off than it was when he started his tenure in the White House nearly eight years ago, with an improving economy and a dominant international position. The other is, by almost every measure, worse.

Call them the "liberal America" and the "conservative America" that he decried in his 2004 keynote DNC address as the creation of political pundits.

A majority of Democrats in a new HuffPost/YouGov poll say that since Obama took office, their own lives have improved, the economy has gotten better and the United States has retained its role as the most powerful nation on Earth.

Republicans disagree on all three points.

It’s pretty sad. Americans are pretty passionate about politics and it can even divide families.

Just went to the liberal bastion of Madison WI and had to pretend to love Obama just to get along with my brother in law and sister. Weird!

Dividing America IS Obama’s legacy.

I fear we are going to answer the question of how we fought against each other in such a bitter conflict, with a conflict far more savage than the first. There is no room for reconciliation because we are two different peoples.

They are intelligent people; they just live in an insulated bubble. Plus they are both government workers so they hate Scott Walker. :)

It is going to be interesting to see how this works out. If Donald J. Trump wins the General Election with say 60%-70% of the popular vote, then were aren’t as divided as the elites might think.
Drudge Super Poll:
Republican Candidates: 68.5%
Democrats Candidates: 30.69%

Not really that divided, is it?

You're right. Dividing America IS Obama's legacy.

I wonder if Trump had some inside knowledge of this poll or this story... since not too long ago he had an ad entitled, "Unity."

Obama’s legacy is the 68 million traitors who voted for him and thus gave aid and comfort to the enemy.

You are right and it is a real tragedy. Race relations, for example, are far worse than when he was elected.

I wonder what sort of afterlife he will have.

Yes, these are also known as the "delusional half."

“...we are two different peoples.”

Agreed.

It would be interesting to see the breakdown between unemployed & government employees compared to the business owners & private sector employees. I suspect the first group would be primarily comprised of Democrats and second group Republicans.

Damned right the country’s fractured... and no king’s horses and no king’s men have the ability to put it together again.

The logical end result of the Democrats embracing Saul Alinsky in the 1970’s.

They are now a hardened, radicalized party with almost no moderate members. You cannot cooperate or cut deals with them, because that party has virtually no one left who is interested in that.

Their goal is to destroy the opposition, not to work with it.

The poll just shows that message has been received and understood on the Right.

Only 28% of Americans say they are better off now than they were 7 years ago.

That’s an F!!
