I'd argue that in Washington's coming blizzard of the century, when we're all reduced to cannibalism, we eat the Establishment first: This week, the New York Times quoted another major Republican figure -- former Senate majority leader and presidential nominee Robert J. Dole -- as saying he would prefer Trump to Cruz. "Nobody likes him," Dole said of Cruz, adding that the senator would bring on a "cataclysmic" loss as the GOP's nominee. Many have decided that Trump -- for all his faults -- is better. For one thing, many Republicans in Congress especially despise Cruz, who has a history of picking long-shot fights and blaming other Republicans when is unsuccessful. Beyond that personal hostility, there's a political calculation. If Cruz is nominated, they say, he could alienate swing voters with his brand of scorched-earth conservatism. If he's elected, they fear, Cruz would shut Republican moderates out of power. "Between Trump and Cruz, it's not even close," said Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), a longtime House moderate who has not endorsed a candidate. "Cruz isn't a good guy, and he'd be impossible as president. People don't trust him. And regardless of what your concern is with Trump, he's pragmatic enough to get something done. I also don't see malice in Trump like I see with Cruz."

Really? When he’s cozying up to Mitch McConnell? I thought there was a consensus around here that we didn’t like McConnell. Something’s fishy.
That's what they want you to think.
From all I can tell, the only reason Cruz is “hated” is that he stood on principle and refused to withdraw his filibuster of a spending bill. This led to a government “shutdown” which, for some unknown reason, the republicans view as anathema.
If he is disliked for doing the right thing, then I like him even more.
The Trump is establishment is a major fail attempt.
It has gone nowhere. But they keep trying.
Remember, Cruz is owned by big donors.
He will owe them. That will cancel out the extreme conservative.
You will get a rehash of the Bush years with even more hate thrown in.

Well, Dole knows all about cataclysmic losses, now doesn’t he? I can’t imagine a single GOP candidate who would disregard his “advice”. /sarc/

You see, here’s where your thought process is faulty.
If Trump is not 100%, 24/7 anti-establishment (as you define it), then - to you - that “proves” he’s part of the establishment.
If he WERE 100% 24/7 anti-establishment, he’d get about as much done as Ted Cruz has gotten done in the Senate. As Trump correctly says - you HAVE to work with these people in order to get anything done. Don’t get me wrong, Mitch McConnell disgusts me. I dislike that squish intently. But if Trump needs to work with him - or the RATS, for that matter, in order to accomplish his goals for the country, I’m all for it.
OK, let’s examine the claim that Cruz is “owned” by big banks because he received a loan (which he paid back) against his own assets for his first Senate run.
First, $1MM is a relatively low amount to sell-out over. If Cruz is SO connected at the hip with Goldman Sachs, as Trump supporters would have us believe, don’t you think he’d be in hock for a hell of a lot more?
Also, once “bought” for the bargain price of $1MM, did Cruz begin acting like a stooge for Goldman Sachs? Standing on principals and shutting down the government is something Goldman Sachs likes/endorses?
This “Cruz is owned” meme just doesn’t make sense. But you don’t need much sense to be a Trump supporter. Logic is hard, but innuendo and character assassination is easy.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
They were quarreling all before Cruz rose,
Ready to catch each other by the throat,
And now combine their hatred all on him.
He’s the second most anti-establishment candidate.
But love the title!
Yeah, Trump is willing to reach across the aisle, just like that stalwart anti-establishment Maverick, John McCain.
We’ll give up on our principles, and get lots of liberal policies, but hey, at least stuff is getting done.
