The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health conducted a survey of potential weapon purchasers recently and it seems to have been clearly designed to produce an intended result rather than some clear eyed exploration of the subject matter. The topic under study was the new generation of so called "smart guns" and how willing people would be to purchase one if they were made available. According to this survey at least, plenty of folks were "willing" to give it a whirl. (NBC News)

I might buy a “smart gun” but it would be more out of curiosity than anything else.
It might be fun to shoot it and see how often the ‘smart mechanism’ fails.
I wouldn’t rely on it for self defense, that is for certain!

what makes a gun “smart” is the person pulling the trigger... if that person needs the gun to decide targets, then the person pulling the trigger is an idiot.
thus, the “smart” gun becomes an “idiot’s gun”.
and therefore, there is no such thing as a “smart” gun.
I’d pay up to $15 for one. Can they get me one for that?
EMP, virus, malicious update, glitch, etc - useless for all but as a rock.
That is going to drive up the value of all the guns without it. Go find your sunk canoe.
But if the objective of its 'smart' is to limit usage and not enhance it, I'll stick with my old rifle and pistol and iron sights and Kentucky windage.
I don't need gadgets to make life more difficult.

Any manufacturer offering so-called smart guns ought to be boycotted into immediate bankruptcy.

No way, no how. I will NEVER have any gun that has ANY electronic gizmo attached that will make it fail to work.
I have no problem with any maker producing and marketing such a gun. I do have a problem with government mandating such devices. Let the market decide.
