The reason is simple. Who do we have higher expectations for? Our family and friends, that's who. When a stranger does something stupid you will probably comment and then move along. If it is someone close you you take it personal, usually as betrayal, almost treason.
Can you imagine the number of gold-diggers you have to deal with as a matter of course if you were in his shoes? Now imagine if the gold-diggers are in your family, or at least gold-digging lawyers backing members of your family against you. No-one except for a pathological masochistic pacifist dummy takes these things lying down.
I hope you don't actually believe some of the nonsense that his grand-nephew was left hanging without medical care! That whole thing *was* settled at some point.

There are always two sides to every story, and I have no opinion either way about what took place as long as the bottom line is, the child got what he needed, and it wasn’t up to the taxpayers to provide it.
