Yes, you read that right. According to Ted Cruz, the so-called Republican establishment is abandoning Florida senator Marco Rubio and uniting behind real-estate mogul Donald Trump. Cruz has long said the Republican primary would come down to two candidates, one a conservative, the other an establishment moderate.
Now that Cruz and Trump are leading the polls, he's trying his hardest to paint Trump as the latter. "We're seeing something remarkable happening in this Republican primary," the Texas senator told reporters on Wednesday. "Right now, the Washington establishment is abandoning Marco Rubio, theyâve made the assessment that Marco canât win this race, and the Washington establishment is rushing over to support Donald Trump. We're seeing that happen every day, and Mr. Trump is welcoming that support."

Cruz alienated himself from the establishment (good) and has now alienated himself from the Trumpers... and so now he has to get over 50% of the delegates himself — via proportional primaries, no less. Good luck with that.
The early states are NOT winner take all. It is important that CRUZ beats Kasich, Christy, Rubio etc
Go CRUZ GO TRUMP. GO TEAM!
The GOPe DOES prefer Trump over Cruz-

“A number of Republican and Democratic strategists believe Cruz is the bigger problem for his partys House and Senate candidates. According to this view, Trump’s candidacy would be neither partisan nor ideological, but entirely personal. Voters would regard him as a wild card, not as someone who represents the views of the GOP.
Cruz, on the other hand, is a more conventional Republican nominee, and voters across the spectrum would see him as defining his party. This would be fatal in northern swing districts, particularly in the suburbs, as well as in swing states with Senate races.”
-because he’s easier for the down-ticket RINOs to distance themselves from.
Makes some sense too. They’ve got a LOT of RINOs.
They have indeed. TRUMP (BLESSED BE HIS NAME) is someone they can “DEAL” with; Cruz, on the other hand, will NOT be cutting deals with the ‘RATS & RINOS. They’ll have to work with him on HIS (i.e., OUR) terms.
Ah, what a ringing endorsement of the pertinence of Bob Dole's political edicts. Obviously, anybody endorsing Jeb Bush should be taken seriously when it comes to statements about other candidates, especially conservative ones.
Bizarro world. Reid would have seriously tried to emulate Trump's positions and bring them to the floor?
Were I McConnell, I'd let them try. At least it would keep those idiots busy.
No, he’s pretty much been focused on contributing to politicians who can help him with his business. Not sure where you’re going with that.
Only the most extreme right wing individuals would consider Trump a moderate at this point. Nobody else does.

Some people here need to wake up & snap out this Cruz dream they’re having. This upcoming election is not about conservative purity. Trump has the winning formula.
As politically incorrect as Trump is, the establishment prefers him over Cruz because they know Cruz will cut spending and special interest subsidies. Trump is a big government crony capitalist who has never indicated any willingness to cut spending or get the debt under control. He won’t do anything of substance to threaten the rivers of tax-payer money that the Washington establishment lives off of.
This is just pathetic from Cruz. Is there anyone who really believes that a GOPe that invested $130 million in Jeb Bush — before Trump even announced — is giving up on Jeb now? They are running 25 million in ads in NH this week alone for El Jebbe. C’mon Ted...please just stop this.
How has that been working out for you the past 8 years?
If this was even remotely true, then Cruz has no hope. He’s already down 2:1 to Trump in most polls, now he claims that another 10%-15% is going to join Trump’s side? If Cruz really believed this he’d bow out of the race.
Trump’s plan is to get America working again so the tax base expands so we can sustain reasonable spending levels.
Recall previously when he had inside info that a bad poll was coming out, say by the DMR, he'd just bash the DMR as "dishonest," etc.
Who was he bashing this morning?
No one. "I think I will win IA." Some things Trump says for bombast, but not these kinds of things. I believe he has good polling data showing that he has a lead now in IA that is solid.
Yup. And Bob Dole did so, in part, because he said that “our party is not so far right.”
Not exactly an argument I would expect FReepers to adopt.
Stop with that crap already and post like an intelligent supposed conservative, you really need to grow up and stop trolling.
That’s because Trump is a liberal.
Other people here have been browbeaten by the 'conservative purity' scolds and have selected the 'electable' candidate over the 'pure' one. In election after election.
Tell me when has it ever been worth it?
I swore I would never do it again, and I will keep that promise.
