The debate would have been a first on several counts. There would have been no network controlling the debate; the signal would have been an open feed, meaning any one could broadcast the debate or live stream it on their site. Fox News’ Sean Hannity and Bloomberg Politics’ Mark Halperin were approached about moderating. And questions would have been culled from viewers of local news outlets around the country, students at Liberty University and soldiers stationed overseas.
“Being able to empower soldiers deployed overseas to ask questions, to get students in the audience at a school, to get real people in the real world ...that was the fundamental opportunity and I think that’s what got lost in the shuffle,” said Solomon, who left the Times in December to become chief creative officer for digital news site Circa.
But by the end of November, all of the planning came to a screeching halt.
BTTT
Just another spoiled milk article. They didn’t get their way and now upset and bashing away. Nothing interesting except that two things happened.
They found out logistics would be too difficult without a TV camera....dah.
They already had Carson, Cruz and then Trump so it would not have been interesting to have them in the debate......well why did you invite them.
They tried.....didn’t work out.....time to move on.
Cant have the grassroots, the base that Jeb! said he would win the nomination without, have any hand in hosting anything. Might make them think they are really part of the process.
Maybe Hannity and the other guy should have a roundtable with the three or four top guys in the race as a regular show. Live stream it. I bet they would get more viewers than the measly 10 million that the last DNC debate got.
I’m finding fewer reasons to remain a Republican these days. The GOP hates people like me and that’s becoming abundantly clear.
Pet peeve - people who say or write ‘squash’ when what they mean is ‘quash.’
“...After that, I was told the RNC’s tolerance for risk taking was lower, even though they loved the idea of a grassroots debate...”
What “Risk”? Put the candidates on a stage, present each with the same exact question (that they did not receive beforehand) and time period to answer and then GET OUT OF THE WAY.
The RNC makes about as much sense as a football bat, flip-flop cleats, or demoncrats.
Do we really think that the RNC wanted a conservative debate?
Nothing is preventing conservative groups from holding a candidate forum or debate. If Donald Trump wants to hide, so be it.
I think I’ll pass...
Jew communist propaganda from Politico.
