When I call someone "dear" (as opposed to "Pal" or "Buddy" or "bub") on FR, it's because I really, truly mean it the same way I say "dear" to a friend or loved one with whom I disagree. I am not being cute, or snide, or sarcastic. I am being sincere.

It is so heartbreaking to see good people willfully deceive themselves. Even when they are dear to me. Fellow patriots and conservatives are dear to me, just like friends and family, whom I also call "dear."

And I am just as heartbroken when I see them exhibit behavior they know in their heart, to be wrong and bad. Such as scorning, deriding, and sneering at people merely because they disagree with their politics.
