Altoona, Iowa (CNN)âIowa's Republican Gov. Terry Branstad called for Ted Cruz's defeat Tuesday, in a dramatic and highly public repudiation of the Texas senator just two weeks out from the Iowa caucuses.
Speaking to a small group of reporters at the Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit in Altoona, where several 2016 presidential candidates are slated to speak, Branstad labeled Cruz a "big oil" candidate whose victory would be "very damaging to our state."
"It would be a big mistake for Iowa to support him," Branstad said. "And I know he's ahead in the polls but the only poll that counts is the one they take on caucus night and I think that could change between now and then."
Asked by a reporter whether he wants to see Cruz defeated, Branstad answered: "Yes."

Did the governor say anything about Trump?
----
Even with Mr. Trump's tweet (wow he highly respects someone that is attacking an opponent),
this fact cannot be overcome:
"Branstad's son, Eric, works with the group America's Renewable Future, which has targeted the Texas senator. "
>> Terry Branstad called for Ted Cruz’s defeat Tuesday
WHY???????
>> Speaking to a small group of reporters at the Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit
Oh. THAT’S why.
Plain and simple Gov. Terry Branstad is an ethanol gibmedat. Will we ever be rid of this evil ethanol?
One small state - Iowa - hold the rest of the nation hostage to ethanol.
Now the darn commodity alky is more expensive than the petroleum derived portion of the gasoline.
So it’s actually raising the price of the fuel too.
>> Trump calls for higher ethanol mandate
Has this article been posted in FR? Haven’t seen it, and search failed to find it.
If GOPe doesn’t get their share of the pork, they get snitty.
At Trump Republic?
LOL hardly.
Doesn’t the Left hate Branstad for refusing to grow government and for keeping the budget balanced?
Trump spoke very briefly about the ethanol mandate at the beginning of his speech, reading from notes in a straightforward fashion, before continuing onto other subjects in the more lively manner he usually shows in stump speeches.
In other words, "I'm just going to pander for a moment with these notes my political advisors handed me, before I start my speech about how terrible politicians are."
BIG CORN roars. I support Trump but this is revolting.
>> LOL hardly.
It is now. :-)
Do the voters like the governor?
The ethanol lobby and the meat packers run Iowa politics. Gotta keep that ethanol subsidy and those illegals in the meat packing industry.
Well he did say he was going get things done. Here is example A of what the Mouth of Manhattan considers getting things done: High Meat Prices, High Fuel Prices. High Grain Costs...
More first in the nation nonsense.
Because limited government and capitalism are silly concepts that won’t make America great again.
/idiocy
Do you know how many posters told me yesterday that conservatism wasn’t the deciding issue in the primary because we had to “save the country first”? It was mind boggling.
Palin endorsed Branstad in 2010, in 2 hours Palin might endorse Trump, can Branstad be far behind.
If Terry wants to beat Cruz he can lend his organization to Trump to fill in for Trump’s lack of campaign infrastructure and help get out these first time voters Trump gets at his rally to the polls to beat Cruz.
