During the presidential campaign, Donald Trump has come down hard on the Obama administration for intervening in Libya to help topple Muammar Qaddafi. Trump says, for example, that the world would be better off with Qaddafi in power. Indeed, he has argued that âfrankly there is no Libya; itâs all broken up; they have no control; nobody knows whatâs going on.â
Trump probably isnât far wrong in his assessment. However, as Andrew Kaczynski at BuzzFeed documents, Trump strongly supported the U.S. intervention in Libya at the time it occurred.
According to Kaczynski, in 2011, sounding every bit like Samantha Power in her pre-power days, Trump had this to say:
I canât believe what our country is doing. Qaddafi in Libya is killing thousands of people, nobody knows how bad it is, and weâre sitting around, we have soldiers all [around] the Middle East, and weâre not bringing them in to stop this horrible carnage and thatâs what it is: Itâs a carnage.
Displaying both his ignorance about Libya (according to this analysis piece about 1,000 people, most of them combatants, had been killed in that country when we intervened) and his scant knowledge of history, Trump continued:
You talk about things that have happened in history; this could be one of the worst. Now we should go in, we should stop this guy, which would be very easy and very quick. We could do it surgically, stop him from doing it, and save these lives. This is absolutely nuts. We donât want to get involved and youâre gonna end up with something like youâve never seen before. . . .
We should do on a humanitarian basis, immediately go into Libya, knock this guy out very quickly, very surgically, very effectively, and save the lives.â
(Emphasis added)
What would happen next? Why, the people would take over from Qaddafi eventually and then âthey should pay us back,â using oil revenue, out of appreciation.
Simplicity itself.
Exit question: Whatâs the difference between Donald Trump and Ben Carson on foreign policy?
Exit answer: Carson has some sense of what he doesnât know.
Documented proof? given how many misquotes and out right lies we have all ready seen this campaign season, some Blogger postings some OP research hit peice Karl Rove sent him claiming Trump said something back when doesn’t pass the smell test.
Oh this just get better. It a blogger quoting another blogger!
Watch the video: http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/trump-says-removing-gaddafi-was-mistake-but-pushed-for-libya#.omElkaeOr
And even MORE conveniently.
The original blog posting claims that Trump said this on “his video blog” which the blogger breaking this story conveniently does not link to for independent verification. Everything else, except the documentation backing up this claim, is linked and sourced.
Why isn’t the original video the blogger claims Trump posted sourced?
” It a blogger quoting another blogger!”
One cancels the other....
Answer: Zero
Removing Qaddifi was a huge mistake! I agree with Trump.
Did you read?
Trump 2011: “I canât believe what our country is doing. trump said, Trump said, trump said...
If “Trump said” one thing to get attention one day and then “Trump said” another thing to get attention another day, do you really trust him to do what you like to hear another day in the future? We are collecting a very long list of vastly conflicting “Trump said” examples. To many, that might signal a conclusion that he cannot be trusted, is a con-man, flip-flops, and is taking his followers for a ride.
Do you not do an objective and detailed due diligence on major decisions?
Cleaned it.......

No, I do not think Trump is lying to me. I think he means it when he says he wants to make America great again. I think he genuinely loves America.
I think Marco Rubio is lying to me. In fact, I know he is.
Trump can say whatever he wants, he’s going to get the go ahead from me to do his best to bring us back.
All you are trying to do from what i can see is show me that Trump is more liberal than I am, but the problem is I already know that.
Problem is that all the times I have voted for conservatives has gotten NOTHING. So I don’t really care about oh we have to find the true conservative anymore. It doesn’t even mean anything.
Do true conservatives vote for the Corker Bill? I don’t think so. I think false conservatives vote for the Corker Bill.
No, “All you are trying to do from what i can see is show me that Trump is more liberal than I am” is false. That is just one message. The second message is he is not trustworthy. He flip-flops at will to fool people. He IS a conman!
The difference between a president and an outside commentator is access to the highest level of intel. With the daily briefings, every president who takes the office migrates his position on some situations; Bush did, Obama certainly has. Trump is a big picture person who knows how to drive a tight organization of good adviors to provide the info and intel needed before the executive makes consequential decisions. In brief, none of his towers have fallen down.
MNJohnnie:
>>>”Documented proof?... claiming Trump said something back when doesnât pass the smell test.”
So when you see the ‘documented proof’ you think maybe Trump might have a problem hitting Hillary on Libya? It smells pretty bad.
>>>”Democrat oppo research will have a field day with The Donald. “
Yeppers, DCdude. This is Hillary’s dream. Just playback Donald on every issue *including* Hillary’s qualifications.
Actually you don't. Watch the video.
