Alternate Title - RUSH: About Trump supporters - "I don't think they care whether the person's a conservative, liberal, or a Martian"
RUSH: Ah, I'm trying to remember where I saw it. You know, it must have been something I read over the weekend and I didn't print it out because I figured by the time I did, it'd be old. If I read something on Saturday, I've learned not to bother to present it because by the time Monday comes along, it's not gonna be relevant anymore. But it was about this whole dust-up. It was all about this dust-up with Trump and Cruz over New York values and so forth. And it was somebody writing. I don't think it was one of these pedal-to-the-metal leftists.
I don't think it was TIME Magazine or New York Times or any of that. Somebody -- maybe a Republican establishment type -- was bashing Cruz for daring to insult people this way. They started praising Michael Bloomberg as an example of a great mayor. I'm thinking, "My God, what in the world...? This is the guy who wanted to tell people that they couldn't buy a soft drink over so many ounces. This is the guy who wanted to ban trans-fats and have all these silly regulations for restaurant menus and stuff," and that was just the half of it.

And let me give you an illustration of what I mean. Washington, Obama, take whatever issue. Obamacare or illegal immigration. Let's take these two. Let's focus on illegal immigration. I don't think the people in this country who know full well what letting this go on means, care who the solution comes from. If anybody is willing to come along and shut this down and stop this assault on American culture... Because that's what this is. These people are not assimilating. American culture is being not just watered down; it's being altered and changed.
There are a lot of people, and they are a majority of people, who do not want this to happen. They don't believe America is guilty of anything. They don't believe America should be in decline. "We've had more than our fair share of time at the top. It's not right that we're the only superpower." People don't think this way. Liberal Democrats think this way. A majority of the American people don't. They don't find anything wrong with a powerful America. They don't find anything bad with America that wins. And they certainly don't think anything bad about an America that would protect its borders and make sure the country is not overrun by people who are not interested in becoming Americans.
So whoever comes along and convinces voters that they're gonna put a stop to it and, in the process, save America, I don't think they care whether the person's a conservative, liberal, or a Martian. That's how big the issue is. And that's what I mean by, "I think some of these issues trump whether or not it's a conservative offering the solution." Here's where it matters. To people who are conservative, who are doubtful of Trump, it's because he's not a conservative. And thus, if he's not a conservative in their minds, then what is he?
Well, he's either an agnostic or he is a liberal -- or, worse, he's nothing and doesn't care and is a calculating opportunist will go wherever he thinks the popularity resides (i.e., be a populist), which may be just as bad in other areas while being right on immigration. And so in that sense they will worry that he's not a conservative. "He may be right here, may be right there, but in the long haul we could be getting in bed with somebody that we can't trust," whereas a solid conservative like Cruz who's also right on the wall, also right on immigration, also right on all of these things, is also gonna be right on everything else.
And some people say, "You know what? I don't care? I'm not gonna take it that far. If I hear somebody who convinces me that they're gonna stop this," meaning, this upending immigration, "if we have somebody that's gonna stop this lawlessness, if somebody is going to deal with it and put up a wall or do whatever it takes... The wall is symbolic. If they're gonna do something to stop this, I'm all-in," because to a lot of people, it is the defining issue. If this doesn't get done, then all the rest of what happens in the future is academic because the country's gonna be so altered and changed and transformed and redefined for the worse that it doesn't matter.
Do Trumpites know what TOUCHBACK Amnesty is?
So in an exercise in futility, I wrote Rush the following email:
Subject: TRUMP = TOUCHBACK AMNESTY. What if Trump's follower only knew?
Rush,
So you theory goes (and I believe it to be true): If Trump says he's going to build that wall and stop the illegal alien problem - then that's all the matters to his followers. They don't care if Trump is conservative or not. Perhaps not, but you should.
Anyway, so do you think that Trump's followers have ever heard of the term Touchback Amnesty. Do you think that Trump's followers would discard conservatism so quickly if they realized that Touchback Amnesty is essentially Trump's immigration plan?
Remember. Trump's going to build that wall. And that wall is going to be the greatest wall. And right smack dab in the middle of that wall is going to be this great big beautiful door. A door that Trump's going to swing right open and let the illegals come right back in through. No. No going to the back of the line like they're supposed to. Trump's going to get them (the goods mind you - as Trump defines them - which means most of them) right back through in an expedited fashion.
It's kind of like how you say unions are nothing more than a money laundering scheme for the Democrats. Only in this case Trump's touchback amnesty isn't laundering money, it's laundering illegals. They'll come right back through that big beautiful door all nice and clean and legal like. In the end the results will be the same, the current American culture and way of life that we have now will be diluted out of existence.
It's a shame you have for the most part glossed over this. Sure, you'll can probably pull up some sound bite were you've mentioned it (briefly) before in the distant past. But that would be like the MSM putting the topic on page A11 once way back when so that someday in the future they can say "See, we covered it."
Remember - The most significant way the MSM demonstrates it's bias is not by how or what they cover, it's by what they refuse to report on.
Rush... When it comes to Trump... You've been enabling a fraud.
When it comes to the massive positive earned media that you've afforded Trump, I bet that northeastern liberal RINO that ran for the GOP nomination the last election cycle wishes he could have been so lucky.
So... There you have it... Trying to convince the Trumpites that the Donald isn’t a conservative is a futile effort. They already know it and they don’t care.
But he was good enough to have beat the stuffing out of the GOPe’s candidates, Hillary, and the media, and building a real coalition of PO’d Americans that saw a candidate that was ready to go to DC and clean house...
While Cruz sat and did nothing.
But now? Oh we just cant vote for that “liberal” lowlife. Why? Because Cruz is “entitled” to the nomination. Sounds about right.
“So... There you have it... Trying to convince the Trumpites that the Donald isn’t a conservative is a futile effort. They already know it and they don’t care”
At least he’s an American and eligible for the job.
"I don't think they care whether the person's a conservative, liberal, or a Martian"
I care. In fact its secondary only to whether the candidate is a constitutionalist.
Well we have tried two out of the three and got nothing but screwed.
Wow. Smackdown. Rush came out of the neutral closet. I wish he’d done it sooner.
Trump is so far ahead and his followers are so fanatic, I don’t know if he can be stopped.
But I hope he can. He toned down his remarks at Liberty and didn’t mention Cruz’ name but still got some digs in.
All politicians target their audience but Trump is running and being loved for mainly two things. Getting rid of illegals and fighting ISIS.
I no longer believe he will do either.
Winning at all costs, principles be damned!
I’m all in......good post. I have my druthers, but will live with the other.
Trump has won exactly nothing so far,”
Neither has Cruz then. So are you guys going to stop bragging about how he will? No? Ok then.
” let alone âbest the stuffingâ out of Hilary, seeing as how Hilary Clinton is beating the stuffing out of Donald Trump by leading in 11 out of the last 12 head to head matchup polls at RCP currently. “
The last poll I saw showed everyone beating her. But I suppose that screwed up the “Only Ted can win” narrative, so now RCP is the go-to to keep the narrative alive.
And it’s a bit absurd to compare a candidate like Trump that has been in the fight against LOTS of political opponents (foreign and domestic) for the past 5 months to Cruz whom has avoided taking on anyone up until....2 weeks ago.
Rush is a devious, two faced, back stabbing, country club water carrying, stooge.
Cruz should consider Obama’s problems.
If you’re elected President, you’re the President of the whole country, not just the people who voted for you.
There are many liberal states where a vast majority of the people support gay rights and would allow abortion. If Cruz just said these people and states are evil and beyond the pale, then he’d have the same sort of problems that Obama has had.
“Well we have tried two out of the three and got nothing but screwed.”
We have not had a true conservative candidate since Reagan. It is looking like Cruz will be the only hope of having one this election.
Lots of good here about an excellent conservative.
Sadly, it sounds like a pre-mortem tribute.
I think the “NY Values” meme hasn’t done much yet but will resonate as the race goes on. But it’s got to go on for that to happen.
Yes and Trumps statement that William F. Buckley is a good example of a conservative coming out of New York is laughable. He might as well have said Alexander Hamilton. All I can say is “wrong century.”
“Trump is so far ahead and his followers are so fanatic, I donât know if he can be stopped.”
Here is a great plan to get them on Team Cruz:
Shame them
Guilt them
Scream at them
Demand they leave this site
Circle the wagons around Cruz and make criticism off-limits.
Shame them some more!
Say that they are unprincipled!
Then when that doesn’t work, complain that they are fanatical...
