“If Cruz is eligible because his mom was a U.S. Citizen, then so is Obama because his mom was a U.S. Citizen.... Just saying!” Actually, not. In order to confer citizenship on her son, Obama’s mother had to be at least 19 yeas old when he was born. She was eighteen. Since his father was not a US citizen, Obama’s claim to eligibility rests entirely on whether he was born in Hawaii.
There is the further complication of her marriage to an Indonesian and a lengthy residency in Indonesia. But beyond the legal stuff, which I think is a stretch, because Hawaii was willing to issue him a certificate of birth, it has to do with his lack of attachment to this country. His mother seems to have little respect for this country and he not much more. The only American and he seems really at home with are progressive academics. Certainly at the famous Berlin rally he case himself as a citizen of the world, with evident disdain for American patriotism.
