Beloved detective Nancy Drew is returning to TV - but she'll look different from how fans remember. American network CBS is pledging that the new Nancy Drew won't be white.
At the Television Critics Association press previews last week, the head of the CBS entertainment division, Glenn Geller, told reporters his network wanted to focus on diversity, including shows designed around characters who were black and Latino.
"We're not casting colour-blind, we're casting colour-conscious," he said.

Years ago a black Odd Couple tv series using the exact scripts of the original Tony Randal and Jack Klugman show was a complete flop. So was the Wiz (a black remake of the Wizard of Oz with Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, etc.
That’s nothing. Wait till you see what they’re planning for the ‘Hardy Boys.’

Saw a black Ralph Cramden last week. Read their looking for a black, well, “diverse” Jack Bauer for an upcoming.
It would be better to have Black Nancy Drew books. As I recall, Nancy Drew was about a third or fourth grade reading level and was a great hook to get young girls reading.
There’s potential here... we could see game shows like “What’s My Unemployment Line” and “The Price Is Free”.
Comedy night should be great: “I Love Lushawnda”, “All In The Single Parent Family”, and “Bebitched”. There will be one show for token majorities: “The Crosby Show” features an upper-middle class family in suburban Utah where the father is a doctor who wears ugly ski sweaters.
Did Michael Jackson play "Dorothy"?
Well it’s only fair considering that Amos ‘N Andy were played by white guys.
“Wonder how Casablanca or Treasure of the Sierra Madre would be rewritten.”
There’d be a black guy playing the role of Sam Spade.

Why are they pledging to do this. Just issue a press release, and move on.
Waiting for the Eleanor Roosevelt Story, starring Michelle or Barry Obama in title role.
All three have plenty in common aside from very large feet.
Easy fix, for “Casablacka” they’ll rename the character “Sam Honky” :)
