America did not enter either world war until later, in WW1, only months from the end. In WW2, Canada was our biggest war supplier. Not the US as many think. Canadian troops and ships fought from the earliest weeks of the war. Without the Empire, we wouldnt have had the material and resources to fight, from Malayan rubber to Australian tin. As well as millions of Empire/Commonwealth man and women.

Of course, American help was huge in both men and material. But there is a postwar US myth that only America helped us, ergo America ‘saved Britain’.

Britain saved itself. America and others helped it.

That dosent mean at all that I don’t genuinely respect the sacrifice of so many Americans. All I am trying to do is get British and other old soldiers their respect too. When I hear people talk about saving Britain etc, I am sure you can grasp how insulting that is. Imagine I aaid only Aussies and Kiwis fought in Vietnam. Or only Aussies, Kiwis, Canucks and Brits fought the Japanese.

Without Britain, the allies couldn’t have won either world war. Without allies, Britain couldn’t have won either world war. We needed each other.

Its not only insulting to the dead and the served, its very bad history.
