Is Roberts chief justice for life? Or can he be rotated out of the chief’s seat and back benched by a new president? Can a new president name a new chief?

The U.S. Constitution states that all justices of the court “shall hold their offices during good behavior,” meaning that the appointments end only when a justice dies in office, resigns, or is impeached by the United States House of Representatives and convicted at trial by the Senate.

Roberts is Chief Justice for life. He was part of helping GW in the 2000 lawsuit with Al Gore so Jebbie pushed Roberts really hard on Dubya. I read Jeb was instrumental in getting Roberts the job. Did not know about Cruz but he was party of the Bush campaign so it makes sense. A stealth candidate is hard to weed out. Look at Suter and OConnell.

All federal judges are appointed for life.
They can only be removed by impeachment in
the House of Representatives and conviction in the Senate.
