CNNâs Wolf Blitzer asked whether he identified more as a Democrat or as a Republican.
âWell, youâd be shocked if I said that in many cases I probably identify more as a Democrat,â Trump said. âAnd it just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans. But certainly, we had some good economies under Democrats as well as Republicans. But weâve had some pretty bad disasters under the Republicans. Including a thing called the Depression.â
In a March 2007 interview with Blitzer, regarding Sens. John Kerry and John Edwards â whoâd lost the presidential race less than three years prior â Trump said, âThat was a shame that that race was lost.â He added this about Kerry: âIâm so upset that he blew it.â
It was then that Trump unleashed a harsh criticism of Bush.
âWell, I think Bush is probably the worst president in the history of the United States.â Trump cited the war in Iraq, calling it a âtotal disasterâ and added later: âLook, everything in Washington has been a lie. Weapons of mass destruction â it was a total lie. It was a way of attacking Iraq.â
In the same interview, Trump was again asked if he felt more aligned with Democrats or Republicans.
âIâm very much independent in that way. I go for the person, not necessarily the party. I mean, I vote for Republicans and I vote for Democrats,â he said.

Donald Trump is an very intelligent man with some very good ideas. But he is not a Republican or a conservative.
FDR was a Republican?
Someone who thinks “Bush is probably the worst president in the history of the United States” is not an intelligent man. Someone who praised Obama and Hillary in 2009 & 2008 is not an intelligent man. Someone who wanted JFKerry to win is not an intelligent man.
But he is a typical NYer, with NY values.
