Really?
Of course as so many has written here, by that standard Ronald Reagan should never have been president.
What a narrow point of view. But then again it must be nice to live in a linear world where ones own values fit in a tiny box. Life is much more simpler. Makes it easier to harsh on others. Give it a break.

You have to create a straw man version of Reagan in order to make your point. Reagan was not at all a man who changed directions like a windmill. Reagan didn't veer wildly to and fro with the prevailing political winds of the moment. His progression from FDR Democrat to conservatism was more akin to metamorphosis--a butterfly emerging from a cocoon, never to return to its prior form.
Trump's "conversion story" on the other hand is a thing largely of mystery. When and under what circumstances did he come to believe in conservative ideas? His transformation appears sudden and wildly at odds when juxtaposed to a huge volume of his prior statements and actions. In contrast to Reagan, Trump's transformation from liberal to conservative seems to me and many others to be more like that of a chameleon than a genuine political metamorphosis.
