MEXICO CITY (AP) â The first of 8,000 Cuban migrants recently stranded in Central America have crossed the Mexican border into the United States.
Some 180 migrants flew from Costa Rica to El Salvador, and have been making their way to the U.S.
All are given permission to cross Mexico for humanitarian reasons. The groups travelled separately across Mexico and the organization sponsoring their trip says the first arrived late Thursday in Laredo, Texas.

My experience with Cubans is limited to my husband having been stationed there, and a few visits to friends who live in the Miami area after that-but from what I do know, they mostly work, and are not on welfare-they appreciate our country and way of life because they came from a real communist hellhole-not a socialist or communist-lite country like most of Latin America. I’m of Hispanic ancestry, but other than having Spanish ancestry in common, Cubans don’t seem to have much in common with those from Latin America...
Good point...
I have no idea, but this could have been part of his deal with Castro to reopen diplomatic relations ...
Maybe he emptied his political prisons and insane asylums again...
He did that with the Mariel boat-lift and we got a mixed bag of nuts and regular people who hated commies ...
“So they can vote Cruz/Rubio?”
Yeah, maybe one those ‘migrants’ can jump into the Presidential race.
I don’t think having 2 junior Senators born to Cuban foreign nationals is enough....../s
“Maybe he emptied his political prisons and insane asylums again...”
Ahhh more demoncrats.
“Some 180 migrants flew from Costa Rica to El Salvador”
Someone is greasing the skids and paying for their passage and we know that it ain’t Castro.
That is what I think he did.....again. I remember when he did that with that with the boat-lift.
“I’d rather have 8,000 Cubans than 80,000 Syrians any day of the week...”
I’ll go further by flipping your numbers: I’d rather have 80,000 Cubans than 8000 Syrians any day of the week.
(And, as you wrote, that is not an endorsement, just an observation...)
I am reminded of the movie Scarface starring Al Pacino.
I don’t mind this at all. Give me immigrants escaping oppression as opposed to those that leave their countries because of economic conditions. They are much more likely to vote conservative.
Since Odumbo has removed the ban on Cuba, it’s time to retire that whole wet foot dry foot deal.
Yeah, we need more immigrants.
Blame it on my one track mind but I’m wondering how many families are involved in this latest migration northward.
I mean it’s not like Cuba hasn’t had a busy military during its commie incarnation.
