How is Donald Trump like George C. Wallace and Jesse Jackson? That question is neither a joke nor a Zen koan. In some important ways, he resembles both the late segregationist firebrand and the African American civil rights leader.
Wallace served several terms as governor of Alabama. He ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1964, 1972, and 1976, and won 13.5 percent of the popular vote as an independent candidate in 1968. His daughter recently told Buzzfeed that political strategy was similar to Trump’s. “The two of them, they have adopted the notion that fear and hate are the two greatest motivators of voters. Those voters that feel alienated from the government. Those voters tend to make decisions based on an emotional level rather than intellectual.â€

Trump is telling people that we can much better then the current corrupt incompetent FAIL from DC.
Trump isn’t appealing to hate or fear. He is appealing to people’s HOPE. Hope that things CAN be fixed, that we do NOT need to accept this current mess as the “New Normal”.
A Ted Cruz Jesse Jackson Contest might be entertaining for at least a few minutes.
It’s truly bizarre to compare Trump to Wallace or Jackson when Perot is the obvious parallel.
George Wallace was operating when economic conditions were better, so was Jesse Jackson in the days of Reagan.
With bad economic conditions, the sky could be the limit with Donald Trump and or Bernie Sanders on the Democrat side.
If Trump is fronting for the Clinton’s, Trump is the new version of Perot who helped Bill win twice, in 1992 and 1996 as a third candidate.
I’ve never discounted that possibility.
But if Trump is designed to let Hillary win Donald will have to deliberately implode like Perot did as a third party when it looked like he would win back in 1992.

What a joke of a writer. The obvious comparison for Trump is not George Wallace or Jesse Jackson, but Ross Perot. Trump is also a wealthy businessman and is raising some of the same basic issues; bad trade deals and runaway, deficit spending. Perot didn’t say much about illegal immigration as that problem was not as well known in 1992.
But the writer did go for all the racism and race baiting he could inject into his story, while ignoring by far the best comparison.
Hate - A strongly negative characteristic found exclusively in those we dislike and seek to discredit.

True, but this article tries to draw parallels between Trump and what methods were used to appeal to the voters: fear and hate and alienation, not necessarily what party they ran under.
And one of George Wallace's runs was as an independent, IIRC.
