Right. I’ll do a Trump for you, the way he does it. “I love the people of New York. They’re hard working, good little people. But I don’t like the liberal agenda of New York; it’s electing of Trump’s pal Hillary; it’s support for abortion and gun control. But seriously, I love New York. Some of my best friends are from New York.”

Cruz missed a golden opportunity to straighten out the facts.

That will come. He wasn't given the opportunity, but even if he had, the hole would have only gotten deeper.

Trump would have simply chanted that Cruz hates "courageous New Yorkers."

Trump's waving of the bloody shirt was typically dishonest and cowardly.

I do think most people knew what Cruz meant, and probably agree with the sentiment for the most part. However, Trump cleverly invoked 9/11 and when that happened, it was all she wrote. 9/11 had nothing to do with Cruz’s remark but businessman Trump will get every bit of emotional and sentimentally fueled mileage out of it that’s possible. Aside from simply looking Trump in his eyes and saying, “Well played, even though you knew what I meant”, Cruz is screwed on that particular play.

I'm not for showing classless displays like some of the Trump supporters here do. Free Republic is a family site, and profanity is banned in the forums, at least it used to be.

And Cruz supporters have never engaged in classless displays?

C'mon and tell me that.

Well, using a fork might not please some people, but if you ever had the toppings slide off the bread into your lap, you would understand!

It’s not like the New York elite and their serfs were going to vote for him, anyway. He has to distance himself from the International Bankers in the minds of Real Americans.

I never knew New Yorkers to be so thin skinned. When I think of New York "values", I think of high taxes and Wall Street. Yesterday, Goldman wrote another big check to keep their executives from going to jail over the mortgage scandal.

Ted struck a chord with Main Street last night, he knew he would never win New York anyway.

The New York candidate (Trump) is steeped in New York values. Shuck off your first two wives and keep trading down in age till you get one who was a nude model.

NYC has lower out of wedlock births and is more religious and has less divorces than parts of the south - including the bible belt. New York ranks almost last in divorce rates.

So maybe Trump has southern values.

Yeah, I've seen him pull that type of slicky-boy con a few times. Quotes like: "I like the blacks," and "The Mexicans are wonderful people. They're the best; they're good works; they can come back after they go home." And then there is silly stuff like last night with how some of his Muslim friends are calling him up to tell him how glad they are that he's banning Muslims. Too funny.

"Donald, this is the Emir. Stop the Muslims from coming to America. My daughter wants to go there to study. Stop them, now."

"Emir, you're a good Muslim. Thank you for being my good Muslim friend."

Exactly.

Cruz won Iowa and the south by taking that stance.

Trump cannot see it because he embodies those values.

"We" haven't come to this, the liberal NY Daily News and its dupes have. Tie them around Trump's neck and it's good for millions of Cruz votes. This is a plus for Cruz in the primaries.

I agree. If Trump has shown the other candidates anything it is how to take a statement and turn it right around and give it even more oomph.... even if it's a complete distortion. This is the case with Cruz's original statement which Trump very cleverly executed into a sleight of hand by turning it into a statement about 9/11... a subject that no candidate would want to be caught attaching to a criticism of another candidate. The only mistake that Cruz made was that he got caught flatfooted with Trump's comment when he could have had a brilliant response.... All one has to do is glance down here at some of the comments to find the ingredients of that response. I suspect that Cruz will come out swinging today on it.......and if he can attach all the NY leftists to Trump, he will make hay with it.

NY values are essentially San Francisco values. Hatered of police, pro baby murder, homo marriage, huge government and high taxes, etc. No way.

I’m voting for conservative flyover country values and no one embodies those better than Ted Cruz. Go Ted!
