Yes, before they capitulated and the government allied with Germany. I’ll leave out the Brit’s unhappiness at the surrender. They put up, briefly, strong opposition to Operation Torch in Oman and Morocco. Americans died. And at sea, though even less effectively. I’ll draw a distinction between the French government and the people, many of which fought the occupation at great risk of life. Many losing their lives. But the French government did ally with Germany, did save the Germans the chore of rounding up Jews. And the population, not the government, did exact retribution against collaborators at wars end. But that’s not the government.
