Appeals for African American leaders to step up and protect unborn babies from abortion are growing louder and louder this month as more pro-life advocates call on politicians to end their support of the abortion industry and instead defend the vulnerable.
The latest appeal came from one of America’s most prominent black families. Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and a pro-life advocate, wrote an open letter to President Barack Obama this week, asking him to end abortion violence against unborn children.
CNS News published King’s letter on Jan. 12:
… Sir, you recently tweeted: “If there’s even one thing we can do, if there’s just one life we can save—we’ve got an obligation to try.†Your appeal seemed to be directed at gun control. Yet, the one life chord is vibrating on a frequency that embraces not just victims of gun violence, but even reaching the innocent lives in the womb.
Many people often try to marginalize the sanctity of life voice. Yet, I would appeal to you to consider that death by forceps or bullets is death all the same:
“’I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.’ They said, ‘What is that to us? See to it yourself.’†– Matthew 27:4 ESVSir, we are trying to “see to it,†to see an end to senseless violence in every corridor.
… Violence can take many forms. Gun violence is one of those forms. Knife violence is another. Fist violence another; and word violence too. Bomb violence is another. And abortion violence is yet another.
As you spoke and began to tear up, I could see the compassion you have for those who are senselessly killed by guns. I believe that many Americans feel the same way you do, not only for gun violence but for any type of violence. Americans mourned the lives lost to the Boston bombers. We mourned those killed at the twin towers on 9/11.

… As you may know, I am a pro-life activist. I am concerned about all human lives. I write to you today because, like you and so many other Americans, I am concerned about the growing violence in America. But I am also concerned over the millions of lives lost to the violence of abortion.
King ended with an appeal to Obama to extend the same compassion to unborn children that he does to those killed by guns.
Obama has openly defended abortion throughout his presidency. He recently vetoed a bill to de-fund the abortion giant Planned Parenthood, one of his closest allies, which is under investigation for selling aborted babies’ body parts.
King’s call for Obama to change his pro-abortion stance comes after a U.S. Congressman challenged Black Congressional Caucus members last week to help protect unborn black babies who are often targeted for abortions.
On the House floor, Wisconsin Rep. Sean Duffy cited the fact that African Americans are 15 percent of the U.S. population but have 40 percent of the abortions. He added that more black babies are killed in abortions in New York City than are born.
“My liberal friends, Congressional Black Caucus members, talk about fighting for the defenseless, the hopeless, and the downtrodden,†Duffy said. “There is no one more hopeless and voiceless than an unborn baby, but their silence is deafening. I can’t hear them. Where are they standing up for their communities, advocating and fighting for their right to life?â€
Pro-life speaker and blogger Ryan Bomberger of The Radiance Foundation also chided his fellow African American leaders for failing to protect unborn black babies and their mothers from abortion.
“The [caucus] wants the House to vote on a resolution to condemn Congressman Duffy’s words,†Bomberger wrote at LifeNews. “The condemnation should be for those who enable the violent social injustice of abortion while pretending that somehow, they–not the slaughtered millions–are the victims.â€

Roe v. Wade Tarnishes MLK Dream
As “fire eaters†on both sides drove this country towards civil war, Democrats professed an apparent contradiction. They demanded protection for slavery where existing, and the right to take their “property†into the territories. They demanded the right to trade their “property†across state lines, and enforcement of the Fugitive Slave Law. Yet during the last heated debates and for years prior, these same people joined the near universal condemnation of the international slave trade.
This contradiction vanishes when understanding the South was being overrun with their “peculiar propertyâ€. Democratic Senator Alfred Iverson of Georgia said before Congress in 1861, “We know well that we never can enjoy equal possession of the territories without protection of our property….. They increase, according to the last census bill, at the rate of 32% every ten years.†Meaning the South needed new slave states and plantations to absorb the increasing population.
One hundred fifty years later the Black Community provides voting plurality to the Democrat Party, and adopts their Pro-Choice sacrament of abortion. According to the Centers for Disease Control, black women accounted for about 36% of abortions, though blacks constitute about 14% of total population. Applying antebellum population growth to the post Roe v. Wade period would mean 68 million blacks instead of the 45 million currently living.
So what benefits accrue for blacks providing the Democrat Party about 90% voting support, compared to a mandate for contributing 60% of their humanity to enrich the Democrat slave master’s political status?
