You mean Medicaid. In case you are interested, the average cost of a Medicaid policy averaged across all recipients in 2015 was $6,600 (NYT). However, providers of medical services often are reimbursed less than their costs of providing the service. Some of this (in the case of hospitals) is made up by other transfers from the federal government.

It’s a shame there hasn’t been one candidate who has pointed out the injustice of collecting these fines from those who can least afford to pay them for a failing program no one wanted. With all the campaign promises being thrown about - I thought one person would suggest these “fines” be refunded once Ocare is repealed.

And of course, the folks who get this money get to define the term “adequate health insurance”, so how much do you want to bet that in a few years, they’ll suddenly change the definition?
