It’s a great place, I hear from Aussies who stay there. Normally security is good, but of course there is no where in the world entirely safe from such incidents.

... but of course there is no where in the world entirely safe from such incidents.

I live in Davao City, Davao del Sur, on the Island of Mindanao, Republic of Philippines. My wife's family lives in Davao del Norte, about 80k from us. When my wife went to visit friends by bus, near there, she endured a 2 hour delay at an inspection station where they were looking for anything from drugs to explosives. Mayor Duterte has a reputation for keeping the peace, though there have been a couple of incidents in the past.

But, according to some recent reports, Davao City is one of the safest places in the WORLD! (DAVAO -- After ranking ninth safest in the world in the user-contributed survey site Numbeo.com, Davao City is now at fourth place.
Last month's survey showed that Davao City was ranked ninth after posting a safety index of 80.69 or a crime index of 19.31.)
